Chapter 12 - Chapter 23-24

Chapter 23: Revelations and Recognition

The next morning, Scott woke up to the smell of fresh coffee and freshly baked bread wafting from the kitchen. It was a familiar and comforting feeling, something he never failed to appreciate when he was home. He walked downstairs, already dressed in a simple black t-shirt and jeans, to find his parents sitting at the kitchen table.

"Good morning, son," Jennifer said with a smile, placing a cup of coffee in front of him.

"Good morning, Mom. Good morning, Dad."

Michael looked at him with a slight smile. "Did you sleep well? Looks like you finally got some rest."

"Yeah, I slept like a log. I guess I needed that," Scott replied, picking up the cup and taking a sip of the hot coffee.

After drinking coffee together, they headed to the living room, where Jennifer turned on the television to watch the morning news. The sound of the news ticker brought back a rush of memories for Scott, who knew that the media was always covering something related to military operations.

On the screen, newscasters began to talk about the rescue operation of Captain Phillips, detailing the efforts that led to his release. Never-before-seen footage began to play, including scenes of soldiers parachuting and preparing an inflatable boat aboard a ship.

"This leaked footage shows the brave SEALs who participated in the mission," the newscaster said. "While the names of the operators remain confidential for security reasons, these photos capture moments of intense preparation and focus during the operation."

Jennifer frowned, leaning forward on the couch. "These images… Scott, doesn't this sound a lot like what you do?"

Scott was silent for a moment, watching the screen carefully. He knew these were images of his team, and some of them showed moments he remembered clearly.

Michael looked at his son with a searching look. "Scott, you were on that mission, weren't you?"

Scott sighed and set his coffee cup down. "I can't confirm or deny it, Dad. You know that."

Jennifer crossed her arms, looking at her son with piercing eyes. "Scott Walker, do you think I don't know my own son? That way you walk, that posture... I know one of those men is you."

Suddenly, the news feed cut to a clearer image of a group of SEALs talking on the deck of the USS. They were wearing camouflage uniforms, and although their faces were partially obscured by sunglasses and helmets, Michael and Jennifer immediately recognized Scott's figure.

"That's you," Michael said, with a smile that mixed pride and concern. "You're right there."

Jennifer looked at her husband and then at her son. "You can't deny it now, Scott. We know it."

Scott gave a slight smile and shook his head.

"You're impossible." Jennifer took a deep breath, pride evident in her voice. "I knew it. From the moment they started talking about this mission, I knew you were involved."

Michael put a hand on Scott's shoulder. "Son, I know you can't talk about it, but I just want you to know that we are incredibly proud of you. Not just for what you do, but for the person you are."

Scott looked at his parents, feeling a mix of emotions. "I appreciate it, Dad, Mom. But you know this kind of thing is what we do. It's not about the recognition or the glory, it's about the job and the people we protect."

After the newscast ended, the room fell into a comfortable silence. Jennifer went to the kitchen to get more coffee, while Michael sat next to Scott, watching him carefully.

"I know you don't like to talk about it, but are you okay?" Michael asked.

Scott nodded. "Yes, I am. It was a tough mission, but we did what we had to do. And we all came home."

Michael gave a small smile. "That's what's important. But just know that even if we don't get to know every detail, we'll always be here for you, son."

"I know, Dad. And that means a lot to me."

Jennifer returned with a tray of coffee and cookies, smiling warmly. "I still think you should be on TV shows like your dad. I bet everyone would love to hear the stories you have."

Scott laughed. "I think I'd rather keep my stories to ourselves. It's safer that way."

That day, as they talked about lighter topics and enjoyed their time together, Scott realized how important his family was to him. They didn't need to know every detail of his missions to support him unconditionally.

As night fell, Michael and Jennifer were in the kitchen preparing dinner, and Scott watched from the counter with a smile on his face. He knew that despite all the difficulties of his profession, he would always have a place where he was understood and loved.

And even if the world would never know all of his achievements, knowing that his parents recognized and valued his work was more than enough.

Chapter 24: The Hunt in Beijing

The unidentified plane streaked across the night sky, silent and invisible to Chinese radar. On board, Scott and his team were focused, checking their equipment one last time before beginning their infiltration. The mission was delicate: capture a CIA agent who had defected and intended to sell classified information to Chinese intelligence, the MSS. The order was clear bring the traitor in alive, if possible.

"Mission off the books," Scott began, scanning his team. "We're in hostile territory, and any mistake could expose us to the entire world. I want absolute silence and perfect execution. Understood?"

"Understood, Lieutenant," Echo's operators responded in unison.

The plane slowed, and Scott and his team parachuted into the darkness, landing in a secluded field on the outskirts of Beijing. They dismantled their parachutes and quickly made their way to the initial extraction point, where a local CIA contact was waiting to provide them with an update on the target.

"Welcome to Beijing," a female voice said as they reached the point. It was Evelyn Shaw, a CIA operative, dressed discreetly and with a serious expression. "The traitor, James Horner, is staying at a luxury hotel in the city center. The exchange is scheduled for tomorrow night, at a warehouse near the industrial district."

Scott nodded. "We need details on the location and an evacuation plan. We can't be detected."

Evelyn handed Scott a tablet with detailed information. "We already have escape routes planned, but the warehouse is heavily monitored by the MSS. They are suspicious, so one wrong move and we'll have an international operation on our hands."

"Understood. Let's get ready," Scott replied, signaling for his team to follow.

Back at their temporary hideout, the team began planning their operation. The warehouse was a three-story building with constant surveillance and multiple entry points. The exchange was scheduled for 10:00 p.m., and Horner would be accompanied by two armed Chinese agents.

Scott pointed to the map. "We'll enter from the west side, where security is lighter. Alpha and Bravo, you'll stay on the outer perimeter to neutralize any reinforcements. Charlie, with me. We'll deal with Horner and ensure the recovery of the intel."

"What do we do if Horner resists?" one of the operators asked.

Scott looked at him seriously. "If he resists, we'll use nonlethal force. But if he compromises the mission or puts our lives at risk, you know what to do."

The team nodded, and everyone went back to reviewing their equipment. The tension was palpable, but their confidence in Scott and the mission was unshakable.

The following night, the group arrived at the warehouse perimeter in a stealth vehicle. The location was dimly lit, but security cameras were everywhere. Using jamming devices, they temporarily disabled the cameras to make entry easier. Scott led the group silently around the west side while the other teams took up positions on the perimeter. He wore night vision goggles and moved with precision, as if every step had been rehearsed.

Inside the warehouse, Horner stood next to two MSS agents. He looked nervous, holding a briefcase that likely contained the stolen documents. Scott surveyed the scene from an elevated position. He activated his communicator.

"Target in view. Stand by for my order."

As the MSS agents began to examine the documents in the briefcase, Scott saw his opportunity. He signaled to his team. "Move in."

The operators silently entered the warehouse, surrounding the location. Before the Chinese agents realized what was happening, Scott had his gun pointed at Horner.

"James Horner, you are in US custody. Drop the briefcase and raise your hands."

Horner froze, but soon began to back away, looking desperate. "I'm not going back! You don't understand what's at stake here!"

"You've chosen your path," Scott replied, advancing slowly. "But for better or worse, you're coming with us."

The MSS agents fought back, drawing their weapons, but before they could act, Echo's operators neutralized them with precise shots from non-lethal weapons. Horner tried to run, but Scott was faster. He knocked him to the ground with a solid blow, immobilizing him.

"You're done, Horner," Scott said, as he handcuffed the traitor.

With Horner in custody and the documents recovered, the team quickly left the warehouse and headed for the extraction point. Evelyn was waiting for them in a camouflaged vehicle, and within minutes, they were all on their way to safety.

On the way, Horner continued to protest. "You don't understand! I did this for the good of the country! You're all blind!"

Scott looked him a cold stare. "Betraying your country is never for its good. You will answer for this."

Upon reaching the safe house, Horner was handed over to the CIA, and Scott received confirmation that the mission had been a complete success.

Back at the safe house, Scott and his team were finally able to relax, albeit briefly. He looked at his men, proud of the work they had done.

"Mission accomplished. You were exceptional, as always," he said, shaking each of their hands.

One of the operators smiled. "All thanks to your leadership, Lieutenant. I couldn't ask for a better commander."

Scott smiled slightly, but remained humble. "We are a team. I don't do this alone."

As they prepared to leave Beijing and return home, Scott reflected on the mission. No matter how dangerous or complicated it was, he knew he would always do whatever it took to protect his country and the people who trusted him.
