Chapter 13 - Chapter 25-26

Chapter 25: Operation Moscow

The unidentified military aircraft flew through the dark sky as Echo operators prepared for yet another mission. This time, they were headed to Moscow, the Russian capital, to conduct a clandestine mission that would require intelligence, precision, and absolute stealth. Scott sat next to his men, reviewing the plan in his mind while his team made final adjustments to their equipment.

"Everyone knows what's at stake here," Scott began, looking at each member of the team. "We're in hostile territory. Any mistake could expose us, and that's not an option. Trust your training, follow protocol, and remember: we're here to complete the mission and leave without a trace. Understood?"

"Yes, sir!" the operators responded.

The mission was to capture a Russian scientist who was developing an advanced weapon prototype for the government. He had decided to defect and turn the information over to the United States, but his escape was compromised. Now it was up to Echo to extract the scientist from Moscow before Russian security forces could capture him.

Scott pulled out the intelligence-issued tablet and laid out the details. "The target is Viktor Petrov, a scientist at the Russian Military Research Institute. He will be transferred to a secure location at 11:00 p.m. Our goal is to intercept him before the FSB, the internal security agency, realizes what's happening. The extraction will be done by vehicle, and the exit point is located 10 kilometers from the city center."

"What's the perimeter like?" one of the operators asked.

"Heavily monitored," Scott replied. "Moscow is one of the most heavily guarded cities in the world. We'll need to avoid cameras, patrols, and checkpoints. So we'll be operating in small groups. No noise, no mistakes."

Echo landed outside the city limits, using false identities and disguised equipment to avoid suspicion. They moved quickly through the cold, crowded streets of Moscow, blending in with the civilians and always keeping an eye out for prying eyes. Scott, fluent in Russian, led the communication with local contacts and made sure they didn't arouse suspicion.

As they approached the rendezvous point with Viktor, Scott gathered the team on a deserted side street.

"Okay, from here we split up. Alpha and Bravo, cover the access points at the main entrance. Charlie, with me. We'll make sure Viktor gets to us without any problems."

Everyone nodded and moved according to plan. Scott led his group toward the building where Viktor was hiding.

The building was an old, dimly lit building with a staircase that creaked with every step. Scott knocked on the door of apartment 3B, using a prearranged knock sequence to identify that it was safe. The door opened slowly, revealing Viktor, a thin, gray-haired man with tired eyes.

"You guys are here to save me?" — ("Are you here to save me?") — Viktor asked, visibly nervous.

"Yes, Professor Petrov. We are here to get you out of here." — ("Yes, Professor Petrov. We are here to get you out of here." — Scott replied in flawless Russian.

Viktor took a deep breath of relief and grabbed a small backpack. "Everything you need is here. I just want to get out alive."

"You're leaving," Scott assured firmly. "Now, let's go."

As Scott and his team escorted Viktor out of the building, things began to get complicated. A group of FSB agents appeared on the perimeter, patrolling the area.

"We've got movement," one of the operators radioed. "Four armed men approaching from the north side. They don't look like civilians."

Scott stopped, quickly assessing the situation. "Alpha, stay hidden and watch. We don't want a confrontation unless absolutely necessary."

He looked at Viktor. "We need to change course. This will take a little longer, but it's the only way to avoid detection. Can you run?"

Viktor nodded, though he looked exhausted. "I don't have a choice, do I?"

Scott smiled faintly. "Exactly."

The team changed course and entered a system of underground tunnels to lose the agents. Scott led the way, while his men secured the flanks.

When they emerged from the tunnels, they were only two blocks from the extraction point. But as they approached, Scott realized the location was compromised. Two FSB vehicles were parked near the point, with armed agents monitoring the area.

"Shit," one of the operators whispered. "They're everywhere."

Scott quickly assessed the situation. He activated his radio and communicated with the rest of the team. "Alpha, Bravo, we need a distraction. Create a disturbance on the east side. Nothing too noticeable, just enough to draw them out of the perimeter."

"Roger that," replied the voice of the Alpha operator.

Minutes later, the sound of a small explosion echoed from the east, and the FSB agents moved in en masse to investigate.

"This is our chance. Move," Scott ordered.

The team raced towards the extraction point, where a vehicle was waiting for them. They put Viktor in the back seat and quickly climbed in.

"Come on, hurry!" Scott ordered the driver, who sped away from the scene.

After a tense chase through the streets of Moscow, the vehicle managed to reach a clandestine airport outside the city, where a plane was waiting for them. Viktor was put on board, still nervous, but visibly relieved.

"Thank you," he said, looking at Scott. "I will never forget what you did for me."

"Make sure this information is worth the risk," Scott replied. "Many lives depend on it."

Viktor nodded, and the plane took off, leaving Moscow behind.

Back at base, Scott gathered his team for an assessment. "You guys did an incredible job out there. Missions like this aren't easy, but we've proven once again why we're the best. Get some rest. You deserve it."

One of the operators smiled. "Thanks to your Russian, Lieutenant, we went undetected. I think you deserve a medal for that."

Scott chuckled lightly. "Just another tool in the arsenal. Now, get some rest before we get another impossible mission."

As everyone dispersed, Scott reflected on the mission. Moscow had been one of the most difficult challenges they'd faced, but as always, Echo had performed its task with excellence. For Scott, this was further proof that training, discipline, and trust in his team would always be the key to success, no matter how dangerous the circumstances..

Chapter 26: Reconnection and Cooperation

The Black Hawk was flying through the night sky toward a remote area in the Middle East. On board were Scott and his team, accompanied by two familiar faces: Maggie Shawn, the CIA case officer, and Jane Tennant, the field agent who had collaborated with them on a previous mission. The briefing indicated that the mission would be risky: infiltrate a compound where a key CIA informant was being held and rescue him before he was transferred to another facility.

Scott, sitting near the door of the helicopter, adjusted his equipment while talking to Maggie and Jane. Jane seemed relaxed, despite the tension that the mission brought. Her expression reflected the confidence of someone who had faced equally challenging scenarios before.

"You're calmer than last time, Scott," Jane commented, with a playful smile.

Scott looked at her and smiled back. "Practice helps. And knowing that we have good allies, too."

When the helicopter landed in a deserted area a few miles from the compound, the team quickly disembarked. Scott arranged the team in a semicircle for a final briefing before they began the operation. He pointed to the holographic map projected by Maggie.

"Our target is being held here," Maggie explained, indicating an area within the compound. "There will be resistance, but we believe we can get in and out without alerting the entire base if we maintain a low profile."

"Jane," Scott said, turning to the agent, "you'll go with me and Alpha. We'll go straight to where the informant is. Maggie, stay in the rear with Charlie and cover the exit."

Jane nodded, adjusting her vest. "Understood. Let's make this quick and clean."

The infiltration began without a hitch. The team moved like a well-oiled machine, with Scott leading the charge. They quietly neutralized two patrols before reaching the room where the informant was being held. Jane, standing next to Scott, used a CIA-issued device to unlock the door. Inside, the informant, a thin, visibly shaken man, looked up.

"You're here," he said, his voice shaking.

Scott held out his hand. "We're here to extract you. Stay calm and follow our instructions."

With the informant in hand, the team began to retreat. However, an alarm sounded, forcing them to quicken their pace. As they moved toward the extraction point, Jane and Scott exchanged gunfire with guards who appeared along the way. Despite the intensity, they remained calm, covering each other.

"You still shoot like a sniper, Scott," Jane commented between shots.

"You're not far behind either," he replied, smiling slightly as he reloaded his weapon.

After a successful extraction, the group was taken to a secure base where they could rest and decompress. In the operations tent, Scott and Jane sat side by side, enjoying a rare break.

"It was good working with you again," Jane began, looking at him. "You always seem to have everything under control."

"It's not always as simple as it seems," Scott admitted. "But I trust my team, and that makes all the difference."

There was a pause before Jane continued. "Do you have a family, Scott?"

Scott shook his head. "Just my parents. I haven't found someone to share my life with yet."

Jane smiled, but there was a hint of melancholy in her gaze. "You know I'm married, but… my job has made things complicated. Daniel and I are fine, but sometimes it feels like we're in different worlds."

Scott nodded, understanding the weight of her words. "It's hard to balance it. The important thing is that you're trying. What about your kids? How are Alex and…?"

"Julie," Jane finished. "She was born a little over a year ago. Alex loves being a big brother, and Daniel is taking care of them at Langley while I'm here. But it's always hard being away from them, you know?"

Scott looked at her, admiring the strength Jane showed. "I can imagine. You're doing this for the greater good, Jane. And that matters."

Jane smiled again, this time with more sincerity. "Thanks, Scott. Working with you makes it seem easier."

Later that night, Scott sat alone, staring up at the starry sky. His conversation with Jane echoed in his mind. He admired her dedication to her family, despite the hardships of the life they'd chosen.

For a moment, he wondered if he could ever find something similar a deep connection and a shared purpose outside of the missions.

As he pondered, one of the operators approached. "How are you, Lieutenant?"

Scott nodded, shaking off his thoughts. "Yeah, just thinking. We have a good team, and today was further proof of that."

The operator smiled. "Yeah, but you're the one keeping everything going. Echo wouldn't be the same if you"

Scott smiled slightly, appreciating the comment but also feeling the weight of responsibility. "Thank you. Now, rest up. Tomorrow could be another busy day."

The operator walked away, leaving Scott alone again. He looked up at the sky once more, took a deep breath, and prepared himself to face whatever the future held. For him, each mission was an opportunity to protect not only his country, but also the team he considered his second family. And despite everything, there was a glimmer of hope that one day, he too could build something beyond the battle lines.
