Chapter 68 - Episode 65 When The Sky Burns

THE DEVIL'S BRIDE

Episode 65: When the Sky Burns

By Rapwizzy Debaron

A storm rolled in.

Not one of thunder and rain, but of smoke and fire. The skies over the northern mountains churned with red mist as the first crack of the ancient seals opened. The world shifted beneath its own weight. Somewhere in the distance, the gates of Seraphhina's temple crumbled, not in defeat—but in release.

Evelyn stood on the balcony of the obsidian tower, her eyes tracing the path of the incoming light. It was not the sun. It was the Phoenix.

"It's begun," she whispered.

Lucien stepped behind her. "The sky shouldn't burn unless something older than time is waking up."

She nodded. "Seraphhina's army is returning."

Far below, Calyx watched from the tower's edge as soldiers, mystics, and creatures of forgotten lore marched through the valley. Banners with glowing runes snapped in the wind. Giant white lions carried seers on their backs. Archers with wings of glass took flight. The Queen had not called; they had simply known.

Calyx turned toward the tower, his jaw clenched. "She's becoming something more every hour."

Inside the chamber, Evelyn's reflection no longer matched her. The mirror showed her with a golden crown, eyes shining like the heavens. But her real face— It was still hers. Still... human.

Lucien placed a hand on her shoulder. "Are you afraid?"

"Of becoming a god?" she asked. "No."

He smiled faintly. "Then what scares you?"

She stared into the storm. "Losing who I am."

Beyond the Mountains

In the realm between realms, Lilora met with the exiled seer known only as Umbrix. He floated above a lake of silver blood, eyes shut, mouth chanting in reverse.

"The Queen has risen," Lilora said flatly.

Umbrix opened one eye. "Then the world will tear itself apart to kneel."

She threw a blade into the lake. It hissed.

"You swore she'd die."

"I said she'd burn," Umbrix replied, smiling darkly. "I never said she wouldn't rise from it."

The Coronation

Evelyn walked through a corridor lined with living light. At its end stood the throne—not Lucien's obsidian seat, but one grown from flame and moonstone.

As she stepped forward, the room bowed. Creatures from myth bent knees. Dragons curled their tails. Time itself slowed.

Lucien watched from the side, quiet. Proud. Terrified.

Evelyn sat.

And the crown descended from the air—not placed by hands, but summoned by fate.

She spoke one word:

"Rise."

And so did the world.
