Logan now stood in front of the forest line, he took in a deep breath before entering.
'I feel like I am spending a lot of time here all of a sudden.' He thought as he navigated his way through the dense forest.
Logan this time knew where he had to go. Magical beasts were quite simple when compared to humans.
To find one that had an affinity for Darkness, he'd just have to go to the darker parts of the forest.
This was also rather deep into it and thus there was increased risk of running into an immensely powerful creature far beyond his ability to fight.
Because while the academy monitored the average strength of the beasts, their methods weren't absolute and as such there was a chance of running into death.
'Speaking of death, the Life Magus mentioned that his tablet went offline.' Logan pondered as he took a mental note of the path he was taking.
'This implies one of two things. Either the tablet only goes off when you die or the tablet must be within a certain range of the students for it to work. Maybe it's both.' Logan remembered that after he was done with Blondie, he had checked himself but he wasn't with his tablet.
The fact that they had left it behind showed at the very least the tracking properties of the tablet.
Logan walked deeper and deeper until the canopy of trees blocked out most of the light dousing the ground below in deep shadows.
His wrist flickered and his tachi appeared in his hand.
He cast a Dark Shot and channeled it through the blade. New runes appeared and spread on the Tachi.
Logan poured his mana into the blade and the new runes glowed with a black light.
A familiar sphere of darkness appeared hovering just in front of the top of the blade.
Logan thrust the blade and the spell fired off with a bang.
He nodded to himself before proceeding further.
As he moved, he could feel his movements become slower and the shadows pulse.
He gripped the blade tightly and split his focus between where he was going and his immediate environment.
Logan closed his eyes and the space around him darkened.
He suddenly swung his blade mid-air only for it to collide with the metallic claws of a beast.
Logan managed to glance at the beast and noticed that it appeared to be a black panther.
His body blurred and the blade moved with frightening speed to behead the beast.
The latter exploded into a mass of darkness the moment the blade touched its skin.
The darkness moved a few meters away from Logan before reassembling into the beast.
It growled and circled Logan, each step it made seemed to match the pulses that ran through the shadows.
The beast vanished and the shadows behind Logan burst open to spit out the beast.
He turned around while his blade moved at his maximum speed and managed to clash sending Logan skidding across the floor.
He stood up and winced slightly, a four-clawed cut ran across his chest. Luckily, it wasn't deep.
He traced the surface of the injury with a pensive expression.
Logan closed his eyes once again and space followed suit by darkening.
The beast vanished and appeared again but this time, Logan was ready.
He and the beast clashed numerous times.
Each time it attacked he'd be ready with a counter while every time he attacked, it would turn into a mass of darkness.
It was going to be a battle of endurance.
Logan swung his blade at the panther who vanished and appeared behind him with its maw wide open. Logan couldn't turn around in time… or that's what it looked like.
The blade disappeared then reappeared in his other hand. He spun around mid-motion and poured his mana into his blade as he thrust it.
The beast tried to vanish but it was too late. The attack killed the beast.
Logan immediately fell and evaluated his strength. Needless to say, he was improving quickly but not quickly enough.
He placed his hand in the panther and with a flicker of darkness out it in his Dark Space.
He walked back to the academy and returned to the class he had come from.
Mr. Joe raised an eyebrow as he saw Logan approaching, "Done already?" Disbelief filled his voice.
As a response, Logan dropped the body in the middle of the room.
"Good, good." Mr. Joe nodded frantically before tapping the floor by his side.
"The procedure of Body Enchantment is quite simple." He started his explanation.
"Do you know what the difference between a beast and a human is when it comes to magic?" He asked Logan.
"Humans need to cast spells while beasts have innate abilities that are tied to their element." Logan listed what was considered common knowledge.
"Now, the difference between a beast and a human in depth has to do with World Energy and Mana." Mr. Joe continued with his explanation.
"Beasts don't have mana cores but this is covered by their use of world energy to achieve great feats." He revealed.
"Since they use World Energy, they can use attacks of opposing elements." He concluded on the first part of his class.
"Now this Body Enchantment of ours uses what we've learned from beasts to achieve a power similar to theirs'." He started the second part.
"We can't achieve this through mana and so we are required to create what are known as World cores. Artificial pools of world energy we keep in our body." He took a pause.
"We must also fuse some of our body parts with that of a beast and before you say it, it doesn't make you a hybrid." He completed with a cheeky smile.
"Take my right hand for example, I have two cores there. If they were to be destroyed, my hand would explode. I'll explain why later on." He cleared the air of any confusion but stopped as the siren went off.
Logan bid Mr. Joe farewell and headed to his room.
He had a while to go before the school year was over.
