Chapter 32 - Body Enchantment

Logan stood in front of the classroom door where he'd be having his Body Enchantment class.

He turned the knob and walked in. Inside he saw a middle aged man with black hair and brown streaks.

He appeared to be in a daze until Logan walked in.

He jerked up and stared at Logan with wide eyes. The latter looked around in curiosity.

"Sorry, I think I might be in the wrong place. I was actually heading to the Body Enchantment class." He said as he turned around ready to walk out.

"WAIT! Wait. This is the class." The man outstretched his hand to Logan to stop him from leaving.

Logan looked at the empty class then at himself. He was wondering if he was the only one who chose this class.

"My name's Joseph Ivor. Just call me Mr. Joe." The man wiped his hand against his clothes before extending it for a handshake.

Logan reluctantly took the hand and just as he feared, it was sticky yet slippery at the same time.

"So where is the rest of the class?" Logan asked after he managed to pull his hand away and made a mental note to wash it.

"This is it. The entire class." Mr. Joe had a nervous smile as he answered Logan's question.

Logan's eyes darted to the door and this didn't go unnoticed by Mr. Joe.

"This class is one of the few that has a clear benefit." He spoke up to attract Logan's attention.

"Here's what I mean. What do you think my element is?" He asked when he noticed Logan's curious gaze.

"Earth?" Logan crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow.

"Exactly Earth. Yet…" Mr. Joe raised his hand and faint scales and plumes appeared on its surface.

Sparks ran across the surface much to Logan's surprise.

Mr. Joe pointed his hand to his side and a massive bolt left his hand and struck the floor.

"I unleashed an attack that can parry a spell while using a different element from my affinity and no mana whatsoever." His hand transformed back to normal.

Logan stared at the charred ground and considered his options before facing Mr. Joe.

"So you've shown me the pros but what are the cons? They must greatly outweigh the former for it to be only me that chose this class." Logan hit the nail on the head and asked him what was on his mind.

"That. Well, it's just the risk involved in the procedure. That's it." He answered as small beads of sweat ran across his forehead.

"So you're telling me that the risk is present only during the procedure?" Logan put emphasis on some words to review his reaction.

"Okay, there might be some extra risks but they are negligible in the grand scheme of things." He answered with a smile that didn't reach his eyes.

'Is he making it seem less lethal cause he is desperate for a student?' Logan ran his hand through his hair before letting out a sigh.

"I'm staying in this class." He finally said the words that Mr. Joe wanted to hear.

"Great, great. You won't regret this choice of yours." He smiled and nodded like a frenzied chicken.

"Now to show you the true power body enchantment is capable of." Mr. Joe walked to the other end of the room and took a deep breath.

His left hand turned into a tentacle while his right grew scales and plumes.

His neck grew rings that pulsed rhythmically. The tentacle had water running around it circularly, the scaled hand had electrical arcs flashing across it and the rings let out the occasional puff of smoke.

"I am capable of wielding four different elements including my own due to this discipline." His voice was deep and animalistic.

"Body enchanting requires you to get your hands bloody. It requires the body of beasts." He revealed as his body turned back to normal.

Midway through his return to his human form, something went wrong. He let out a loud screech and his body swelled unevenly before stabilizing.

Logan didn't see something grotesque, he saw power.

He grew larger with organs like eyes, wings, and even a beak appearing on his body.

Logan cast a Dark Shot and was prepared to escape when the swelling stopped.

Mr. Joe returned to normal with the only difference being his pale face and cold sweats that ran down his body.

"This. This is one of the risks. If you were to use different beasts with different elements, you open your body to spontaneous and random mutations." He inhaled sharply before sitting on the ground.

"You can leave if you want." Mr. Joe closed his eyes to take better control of himself.

He opened his eyes a few moments later only to see Logan sitting opposite him.

"I'm here to learn." The latter smiled slightly.

"Before you do, it's best you understand the full risks." Mr. Joe let out a few curses under his breath.

"Aside from the dangers of the actual procedure which I will explain later, there are others. The first being the risk of being unable to reproduce." He started his explanation.

"The next prominent one would be what you just saw. Your body can turn on you at any time and you'd go wild killing friends and foes alike." His eyes became deep as though staring at a memory.

"And the last is the actual risk of the procedure which is instant detonation. Your body would explode into a gory pile of flesh." He completed the warnings that had deterred so many students from attending his class yet Logan stayed unbothered, excited even.

Mr. Joe locked eyes with Logan and couldn't help but slightly smile.

He had high hopes for this unconventional student of his.

"Before I can teach you, you have to bring me the body of a beast that you killed. It'll be preferable if it shares the same elemental affinity as you." He told Logan before clapping to dismiss him.

"Go! Bring that beast now! Don't come back otherwise." He yelled as Logan walked out of the class to find the beast.
