Logan's pupils constricted into dots, his muscles tensed and he shook slightly.
'She must have had something to do with last night's attempt.' Logan's eyes studied the slight smile on her lips hoping to find an affirmation to his suspicions but found none.
"The same goes for the rest of you. I trust all of your nights must have been uneventful. After all, you came to learn and as such should be duly devoted to that cause." She turned to the rest of the class.
"The last time we met, we briefly addressed the topic of Casting." She leaned against her table as she prepared for the day's lesson.
"There are in essence four types of casting: Normal casting, Silent casting, Body casting, and True casting." She raised a finger for each casting she mentioned.
"The first is what we are all familiar with. Normal casting involves casting spells by using hand signs accompanied by the appropriate incantation. Take this as an example." Her hands formed archaic symbols as her mouth weaved together incantations.
A net of lightning left her hand and dispersed in the air, filling it with the strong smell of ozone.
"The next is more complex. True casting involves using only your mind to cast your spell." She paused before resuming.
"Think of it this way. Every time you cast a spell, your mana reacts in a particular way to execute the spell. Silent casting involves you manually controlling your mana to react in that way to achieve the same effect." She explained to the best of her ability.
"So you cast the spell without actually casting it. Hence it's called Silentcasting." She completed but decided to give a visual description.
She lifted her palm and a similar net left its surface without her uttering a word.
Logan studied the spells cast and noticed the lack of a clear difference between them.
'Is this what Aaron had been doing when he fought the tiger and when he cast the S-rank spell?' He pondered silently whilst simultaneously wondering if he could achieve the same.
"Now this is where things get a bit complicated." Miss Beth warned her students before starting the explanation.
"Body Casting requires you to cast the spell but with your body. You'll form the signs using mana within your body. This is usually done for long and immensely powerful spells." She started.
"When you normal cast, you are forming runes with your hands and even speak the name of those that can't be formed with the hand." She revealed more regarding casting.
"This is where body casting lies its foundation. Each blood cell, muscle strand is involved in the process. You'll form every rune for the spell and cast it as a whole." She took a pause and a deep breath.
"Think of it this way. You need to say 'A' to cast a spell. With body casting, you'll use your will and mana to form 'A' within your body to cast the spell." She finalized and observed the students' reaction to see if they understood and luckily they did.
"The last is unique." She let out an iconic smile.
"You remember how World Energy gives everything its inherent properties. True casting is using your mana to override the world energy around you to achieve the effect that you desire." Logan watched on as she explained.
"It can be likened to a knight who has orders from their king and someone feeds him false orders and says it's from their king. The knight will carry out the new orders." She concluded on true casting.
"Normal Casting is the use of symbols and incantations, Silent casting is the simulation of the mana flow during the casting of spells, Body casting is using the body as a means to create the runes for the spell you wish to cast, and True casting is replacing the world energy in your immediate environment to achieve your desired effect."
She summarized her lesson.
"Naturally, learning about it doesn't mean that you'd be able to do it. It's not an attempt at degradation but a fact. The other three especially the last two are found in rare geniuses." She spoke as soon as she noticed some students attempting to silent cast.
The class went on with further and in-depth explanations of the casting and great figures in history who had discovered the types of casting.
The siren marked the end of the class.
Logan looked at his tablet to confirm his next class when the surface changed into a series of text.
[LOGAN KRESS YOU ARE TO REPORT TO THE HEADMASTER'S OFFICE IMMEDIATELY! A LACK OF COMPLIANCE WILL BE MET WITH IMMEDIATE EXPULSION]
The text was bold and flashing red.
Logan inhaled deeply and ran his hand through his hair before heading over there.
He opened the door and found the Life Magus with a scowl on his face as he looked down at his desk.
"Do you know where your roommate is?" He asked Logan without diverting his eyes from the desk.
"Jack? No, haven't seen him. Why?" Logan's eyebrows furrowed in worry.
"He is missing and his tablet went offline." Victor finally looked at Logan dead in the eye.
The latter felt imminent danger but it didn't reflect on his face.
"Missing? That's… strange. We didn't talk much, but I've known him for years." Disbelief and worry crept into Logan's voice.
"I thought you would have noticed. Aren't you roommates?" Victor's eyes squinted as he took in all of Logan's gestures.
"We're barely ever in the room at the same time so I figured that was all it was." Logan replied as his eyes trembled ever so slightly.
"You can go." Victor sighed as he dismissed him.
Logan stepped out of his office and closed the door behind him, "Missing? How is this possible?" He mumbled as he walked off with his steps seemingly dispirited and heavy.
Victor's eyes lingered on the closed door for a moment before looking elsewhere.
Logan let out a sigh and checked his tablet once he was far enough from the office.
'The school seems to have no clue that I did it. Best to act shocked but not too much that it's obviously fake.' He thought as he navigated the tablet.
"Body Enchantment." He walked in the direction of the class.
