Chapter 1 - The Withered Cathedral (1)

There was a rustling of wind through the forest of great trees. The sounds of insects, animals, and the idea of what else there may be in this dimly lit maze of giant wood. That's what the three of them heard sitting here in this great forest.

"We should be there soon." The man said in a comforting tone. Handing the young girl, and young woman accompanying him each a piece of bread.

"I am sorry. You would've made it there already if it wasn't for me." The young girl said.

"It's alright Nora. The Higher Four wanted you to gain hands on experience. But to send you on a mission of this importance. I know I shouldn't question their decisions...well it doesn't matter I suppose that just means they have faith in how much you've grown" The man said.

"Grown?! She's still a child Veris...she's only 13. How could they send her on this mission. Not to mention how vital she may be for our future. I mean she's HIS daughter." The young woman said with disquiet.

The sounds of the forest seemed to grow louder in the split second of silence that the group shared. The sun was starting to fade lower. Which meant that their journey was set to begin again.

"However right you may be Mere. I have full confidence in the Highers, and you can't deny she has shown great tact on this outing. We retrieved the Item did we not?" Veris said with a bit of glee.

"I suppose we did." Merele said. Putting her face in her palm.

"We should be going now shouldn't we?" Nora said her calm but disappointed tone still present.

"Yes we should." Said Merele.

"Ah yes it is getting close to dawn. ALRIGHT TRIO LE-"

"shhhh." Merele interrupted him. "We don't know what could be out here especially with it nearing nightfall."

"Nightfall won't bring anything but some Bloodwolves, and we could handle those real quick" Veris said with a smile unscheathing his long dagger and posing.

"Still this is the Holy Citys great forest. They tell horror stories about it. The monsters at anytime of the day are said to be terrible." Merele expressed.

"Well those bastard nuns handle those." he thought for a second. "But running into one would suck non the less so I guess let's get there diligently."

The trio gathered their supplies and headed onwards. The sounds of the forest still eerily singing. The sun still fading, and a destination waiting.

"Here it is." Veris said. "The old forest cathedral. I've only used it once before. But since my last time here it's gotten even more tattered it seems"

"You've rendevouzed through here before?" Nora asked.

"Ah yes. Only once though. Just a resource gathering mission. I hate that city with all my heart but it's got same great tools and real good food." Veris answered.

"So my cousin and the others are waiting for us in there?" Nora questioned.

"Indeed. It'll be good to have those five guide us home for your first mission." Merele said placing a hand on her shoulder with a smile. "Now let's go say hi."

The sun was almost gone, almost no light was left in this great forest. Yes the one with the sounds that sung. From the insects, to the animals, to the monsters, to the...

As they walked into the cathedral. The sounds of the forest seemed to go quiet like nothing was around for leagues nothing but them...and the bodies in the grass.

Veris's eyes widened. "WHAT IN THE NAME OF ZALDAIS?!"

"Nonononono." Merele let out in a sad weep.

Nora was silent scanning the bodies. Noticing there were only four bodies, one short of the 5 they were supposed to meet. She looked intently as they moved closer seeing if any of them were her cousin.

"He's not among them." Nora said.

"Huh?" Veris and Merele said at the same time still in shock and horror.

Then they all heard a voice.

"My Lord Princess Reila you bestow upon me great honor. The gifts you've given me leave me truly blessed. For you I shall end this hunt." The voice was calm, cold, and almost hollow.

Veris eyes narrowed. "Shit, we should've chosen monster."

Infront of them stood a young girl with long white hair, and she was wearing the blue and white garments of a Nun Of Reila.

The light was all but gone in this great forest. Yes the one with the sounds that sung. From the insects, to the animals, to the monsters, to the NUNS.
