Chapter 9 - Chapter 8: Discussion

"It's impossible to be invincible," Horn shook his head and said.

"First, there is a limit to the number of runes that each person's Sea of Consciousness can hold. One can't learn infinitely."

"Second, there is the limitation of magic power. Just because one has learned a spell doesn't mean they can cast it. There must be enough magic power in the Magic Power Sea to cast the spell."

"Third, the more advanced a spell is, the more complex its magic circle is, and the more difficult it is for the magic circle to take shape in the Sea of Consciousness."

"Fourth, there is the issue of compatibility. Due to physical constitution, everyone is good at different spells. There are also spells that I simply can't control."

"Fifth, there is the limitation of the casting medium. Casting a spell of the same level without a medium is just courting death. And the best medium I can find at present, the walnut - wood staff, has an upper limit of third - ring magic."

Horn rambled on and on, leaving Enoch with a confused look on his face. He said muzzily, "Okay, I just need to know that I can't be invincible for now. I'll leave the rest to you."

"By the way, I haven't asked you why you were discovered. Didn't I tell you to be more careful?" Horn asked Enoch.

Enoch slapped his thigh and started scolding:

"It really makes me angry when I think about it!"

"What's wrong?" Horn looked at Enoch's expression and felt that something was fishy.

"Hey, what else could it be? It was that Likal. I had to keep an eye on him after I gave him the potion last night. When he was captured by the Church people, those deacons somehow discovered me. I just used a small illusion spell. No one should have been able to detect me."

"You should be more careful when using illusion spells in the future." Enoch rarely got discovered when using illusion spells, at least rarely by the people of the North Wind Church. Although they were powerful, their perception of the surroundings wasn't much stronger than that of ordinary people.

"That's not what I'm annoyed about. I was more than eighty meters away from that deacon!" Enoch said, rubbing his head in annoyance.

"Moreover, every time I was about to escape today, I was strangely discovered. I'm sure there's a problem!"

What Enoch didn't know was that the black - robed deacons didn't have the ability to see through his illusion. Someone else saw through his illusion and summoned a large group of Church people. After all, an ordinary wild witch wasn't qualified to make the noble white - robed deacons take action.

Horn and Enoch discussed for quite a while but couldn't figure out how those black - robed deacons had discovered Enoch.

Since they couldn't figure it out, there was no need to rack their brains for the time being. Horn said to Enoch:

"Your face has been seen by them. Don't go out for the next few days and find an opportunity to leave Lion City. It's too dangerous for you to stay in Lion City after being exposed."

A wild witch whose face had been discovered would have no other way out but death if they still stayed in Lion City.

"Remember my face? They're overestimating themselves." Enoch smiled smugly at Horn. He activated his magic power, and under Horn's gaze, his facial muscles slightly distorted. Although the change was small, his face had completely transformed into another appearance.

"What does your real face actually look like..." Horn asked helplessly.

"It was the previous one. I learned this face - changing skill after learning from you!" Enoch shrugged and said.

After finishing the conversation with Enoch, Horn asked him to stay in his room first. Then Horn neatly folded the black robe that Douglas had given him, took out the new staff he had given him, and started to study it.

Douglas said that this staff could withstand about ten third - ring spells, and Horn had already used it to cast two third - ring spells. This new staff didn't turn to ashes like the staff he had made himself. There was only a faint black mark in an unnoticeable place.

The wood used for this staff was oak. Generally speaking, it was the same as the staff Horn had made himself. The only difference was that there was an irregular light - red crystal at the front of this staff. This stone was a magic crystal!

It was taken from the demonic beast that they had defeated when saving Enoch last time!

After studying for a while without making any headway, Horn put the staff and the robe together, walked to Douglas's room, gently knocked on the door, and then pushed it open. Old Douglas was holding a piece of wood and carving something with his reading glasses on.

"Teacher, I've brought Enoch home. Is it okay for him to stay here for the time being?" Horn asked politely. Although this home had always been shared by the two of them, and their relationship was like that of father and son, in name they were master and apprentice. So if Horn wanted to bring someone to stay, he still needed Douglas's consent.

"Oh, it's okay for him to stay. If you think it's necessary, let him move in. But he has to work. I don't keep idlers here," Douglas casually agreed.

"Teacher, I've brought back the things you lent me." Horn put the package on Douglas's table.

"Take them back. I'm not lending them to you; I'm giving them to you."

A faint smile curled up on Douglas's lips, making the wrinkles on his face look even deeper.

"By the way, teacher, the smell in your room is a bit strange."

As soon as Horn entered the room, he actually noticed that the smell in the room was off. It was a strange fishy smell,

Just like that of a stink bug!

 "Oh, you mean this."

Old Douglas lifted his foot towards Horn. There was a thick layer of fluorescent - green liquid stuck to the sole of his shoe.

"I accidentally stepped on a big bug just now. It was full of green juice. It's a pity I didn't step on it to death..."

Old Douglas said with a tinge of regret.

Horn felt a shiver run down his spine looking at the green liquid all over the sole of the shoe. A bug with so much body fluid...

Just thinking about it made him feel nauseous!

...

In the hall of the North Wind God Church in the center of Lion City,

Levi knelt on one knee on the cold marble floor.

He was still recovering from his serious injuries, and there were bandages wrapped around many parts of his body. In the battle with Horn, large areas of his body had been severely burned by the flames. Especially the left side of his face had been burned terribly, looking like a ghost climbing out of hell!

Four people also wearing white deacon uniforms stood on each side of him.

They were the other four white - robed deacons in Lion City.

In the direction where Levi was kneeling, there was a very gorgeous chair. Sitting on the chair was a bald old man with a hooked nose and slanting eyes.

The old man's robe was much more beautiful than Levi's deacon uniform. It was pure white and had several cyan silk ribbons draped over it. This was the attire of the chief priest of the North Wind God!

In the Ceylon world, the person in charge of an entire church was respected as the Pope or Pontiff. The person governing a diocese was called a cardinal or grand priest, and the person in charge of a city was called a bishop or priest.

Usually, each priest had a varying number of white - robed deacons under their command. As for the black - robed deacons, they were considered grassroots figures in the Ceylon Church system, while knights and the like belonged to another system of the Church.

"Levi, you have failed," the bald priest said expressionlessly. There was a dangerous glint in his small eyes.
