Chapter 79 - Chapter 79: God-tier Achievement Comes with a Skill Reward?

"Everyone, look at this position!"

Terry Yan pointed at a section of the map marked as the 'High Ground.'

"This area is called the High Ground. It's critical. Once the enemy breaks through here, it means you're only one step away from defeat. Especially the three energy towers on the High Ground they must not fall. If any of them are destroyed, the next target is your crystal!"

"Also, once any of the High Ground towers are taken down, the enemy will send out a Super Mecha Soldier to join the battlefield."

"These mechas hit hard, have high defense, and once they appear, they're a serious threat."

"So if a High Ground tower is under attack, all of you must retreat and defend it."

"Oh, and rumor has it, if someone achieves the God-tier achievement, the Forbidden Zone will grant a mysterious skill as a reward. Of course, that's just a rumor."

"No one's ever reached that rank because the conditions are ridiculously strict. You not only have to win the championship, but also survive from the very first match to the last without dying even once. Plus, in every match, you need to score at least seven kills."

At that, everyone groaned.

Such harsh conditions? That was basically impossible.

Unless all the other schools agreed to stage the whole tournament for you which would never happen.

Only Vincent Fox's eyes lit up.

Yes, the requirements were absurd for anyone else.

But he was different.

With his current strength, there might actually be a chance.

What he really wanted to know was, what kind of mysterious skill would come with that God-tier achievement?

"That's everything for the rules. Anyone got questions?" Terry asked.

The students all shook their heads.

"Alright then," he continued, "next I'll introduce some common tactics. If you've got time, go online and look up footage from previous tournaments. Even though this is ultimately about your own strength, that doesn't mean tactics don't matter."

"On the contrary, if your tactics are on point, even weaker teams can turn the tide. Especially when you're facing an evenly matched opponent, strategy becomes the deciding factor."

Everyone listened carefully.

Even Vincent.

He had grown very interested in the national freshman tournament.

He wanted to see what kind of tactics the people of this world had come up with...

"The most basic strategy is called the Solo Push tactic. It's the standard go-to for most teams."

"In this tactic, the five of you are divided into three lanes. Two lanes focus on defense, while one is designated for full-on offense. Usually, the team's strongest player is assigned to the attacking lane."

As Terry explained, he glanced at Vincent.

Naturally, all the students instinctively turned to look at Vincent too.

There was no helping it. In everyone's eyes, Vincent Fox was this year's undisputed strongest student at Martial Saint Academy.

Terry continued, "For defense, just one person per lane is enough. The remaining team members are assigned to the offensive lane to push forward together."

"But this tactic demands a lot from your carry. And it's easy to counter. If the enemy sends two players to stall your main force, the other two lanes will be dangerously exposed."

The days that followed were packed with tactical lectures and rigorous training.

In the blink of an eye, half a month passed.

The national freshman tournament was now in full swing.

The campus was covered in banners and slogans proclaiming their goal to break into the top ten. It drew plenty of amused reactions from students.

Meanwhile, the media was stirring up hype.

The internet was full of news about the "Hundred Schools Grand Tournament," and countless influencers were making their predictions on who would take the crown.

To Vincent's surprise, he even found a betting site for the tournament.

"Wait... this is blatant gambling. The government's not stepping in?"

Right now, Vincent was sitting on a bus bound for the airport.

Around him were other students selected for the competition, along with several teachers.

The dean of discipline was leading the group, and Terry Yan was there as well.

They were headed to the airport to catch a flight to Shen City, where the Peace Forbidden Zone was located.

"Vincent, what are you looking at?"

Autumn Summer sat beside him and whispered the question.

Vincent smiled. "Someone turned the tournament into a betting platform. You can bet on who wins or loses."

"Are we listed?"

"Yeah! And our odds are super high. If you bet on us and we win the first match, the payout is five times."

Vincent's thoughts started racing.

Should he place a bet on himself?

With him on the team, they were guaranteed to win. Free money, basically.

And from the look of it, the website seemed pretty legit. They probably wouldn't try to scam him...

When Vincent and the others arrived in Shen City, it was already seven in the evening.

After leaving the airport, they headed straight to the hotel.

The official tournament would begin tomorrow.

Tonight, they needed to rest and conserve their energy.

"Welcome, honored guests!"

A receptionist stood at the hotel entrance. "You're with Martial Saint Academy, correct? Please register over here. After dropping off your luggage, dinner is being served on the third floor."

The students each filled out their information and picked up their room keys before heading to the third floor.

The third-floor restaurant was already packed with students from all over the country, and the atmosphere was buzzing.

Their uniforms came in various colors blue, purple, red. Vincent and his classmates wore the signature white-and-aqua uniform of Martial Saint Academy.

There were plenty of teachers here too, all gathered for the pre-competition meal.

Good thing the restaurant was big enough. Otherwise, there wouldn't have been room for everyone.

"This dinner is buffet-style," Terry announced at the front. "The food stations are over there. Get whatever you want. Once you're full, meet me back here and we'll return to our rooms together."

Everyone nodded and headed off to get food.

The buffet was lavish fish, meat, seafood, you name it. A dozen chefs were hard at work preparing the dishes non-stop.

"Vincent, try these shrimp. I just had some and they're really good."

Autumn Summer appeared silently beside him.

Vincent smiled and took a few shrimp for his plate.

Autumn then added a slice of beef to his plate. "You need to eat more. You're definitely going to be our team's main carry tomorrow."

Vincent didn't refuse. He was about to say something when a voice suddenly rang out behind them.

"Cousin?!"

Autumn turned around and her face lit up with surprise.

"Heather, you're here too? Right, you inherited Blizzard of Hell's ability. That power has insane potential. Of course your school would send you."

Heather Summer's face showed a bit of smug pride, but she pretended to stay humble.

"Sis, you're on another level. I heard about your evaluations in Zones 2 and 3. Especially Zone 3, you got the highest mission score. That's incredible!"

"You cheeky girl, since when did you learn to flatter me?" Autumn laughed.

It was obvious the two cousins had a close relationship.

"Oh, right!" Heather suddenly leaned in, whispering like she was sharing classified information.

"I heard you rejected that engagement arranged by Auntie? And they say you've got a boyfriend at school? Where is he? Let me meet my future brother-in-law!"

At that, Autumn's face turned crimson.

Even her ears turned red.

Because Vincent was standing right beside her.

Their relationship had definitely deepened back in Forbidden Zone 3, but they hadn't officially confirmed it.

She had been waiting for Vincent to make the first move and declare it publicly.

Now, with Heather blurting it out like that, Autumn wanted to disappear from embarrassment...
