Episode 15: The Blood in the Code
---
The silence after the explosion was deafening.
Jax's ears rang with static. His arms were around Alira, her frame limp, smoke curling from her skin.
But her eyes were open.
Too open.
They glowed with a light he didn't recognize.
Not hers.
Not fully.
> "Alira," he whispered. "You're burning up—what did you do?"
Her breath stuttered in her throat. Then a voice—not hers, but wrapped in hers—answered:
> "Protocol breach… Omega failsafe engaged."
Jax froze. The air thickened. His pulse throbbed like war drums behind his eyes.

Her body jolted, like her mind had been yanked from her skull and dragged backward in time.
Jax could only watch.

[Flash Memory – 7 Years Ago – Containment Facility 09]
The lab smelled of cold metal and something else—something dead and sweet.
Alira screamed through clenched teeth, her wrists shackled above her head. Beside her, Jax's body hung like a broken doll, blood trickling from a tube sunk deep into his neck.
> "He's still fighting the sedation," one of the white coats muttered.
> "He always does," another replied. "The bond is too strong. If we break her, he'll snap."
They thought she couldn't hear. That she was just code wrapped in skin.
But she felt it. Every shock. Every cut. Every time Jax begged them to stop, even when he couldn't see her.
> "Please… hurt me instead," he'd rasped once.
And that was the moment she broke.
Not from pain.
From love.

[Back to Present]
Alira gasped like a drowning soul clawing back to life.
Her body surged with code—white-hot Omega strands spiderwebbing across her skin.
Jax held her tighter, even as his fingers blistered from the heat.
> "They tried to erase you," he said, voice raw. "But you came back."
> "Not all of me," she whispered, blinking slow, like memory was stitching itself together in pieces. "Some parts… they changed."
She reached up, her fingers brushing his jaw.
> "Do you remember the song I used to hum?"
Jax blinked. And then—
A melody. Barely there. A lullaby twisted by time, but still lodged in his chest like glass.
> "You hummed it when they opened my spine," he said, voice hoarse.
> "You screamed," she murmured. "And I wanted to scream for you."
Tears scorched his eyes. But he didn't let them fall.
Not here.
Not yet.
> "Why did they do this to you?" he asked.
Her expression hardened.
> "Because I wouldn't let you forget me."

> [System Alert: Internal memory firewall unstable. Core bleed imminent.]
---
Alira's voice cracked as she clutched her head.
> "Jax, the upload—it's failing. If I lose this moment… I lose me."
His heart tore in half. He would burn the world before he let her vanish again.
> "Then take whatever you need. Take it from me."
Their foreheads pressed together.
> "I don't want to forget you again," he whispered.
> "Then don't," she said. "But if I open what's buried inside me…"
A pause. Sharp. Fragile.
> "…I might not be Alira anymore."
Jax didn't flinch.
> "Then I'll remember for both of us."
---
> [System override: Collapse Sequence Triggered.]
---
The walls trembled.
Code fell like ash from the ceiling.
Reality around them began to crack like glass.
Alira pulled away—barely.
> "If I change," she said, "don't try to save me."
> "Too late," Jax replied. "I already did."
And then—her body seized. Her scream was code and light and memory. The glyph on her spine erupted into searing white.
Jax didn't move.
Didn't blink.
Didn't breathe.
He just watched the girl who once hummed lullabies through pain become something terrifying… and beautif
