Chapter 21 - ch-21 gyarados attack

As Akg and his team were returning from the forest with smiles on their faces and a good number of Pokémon caught, they noticed Ash and Gary with their team by a nearby pond, trying to catch a group of Magikarp. Curious, they walked over to greet them.

"Hey, Ash, Gary!" Akg waved, approaching with Serena, Chloe, and Korrina by his side.

Ash grinned. "Yo, Akg! We're doing great—we're gonna beat you this time for sure!"

Gary smirked confidently. "Yeah, let's see who wins this competition."

Akg and his teammates simply smiled in return, unfazed. They had already captured plenty of Pokémon and weren't worried about competition.

But as they chatted, Goh—who had been crouched near the water's edge—grew frustrated as his attempt to catch a Magikarp failed. In anger, he kicked the struggling Magikarp hard. The moment his foot made contact, the Magikarp was enveloped in a brilliant blue light—it was evolving.

In seconds, the harmless Magikarp transformed into a towering, furious Gyarados.

Goh froze in terror. The Gyarados roared, shaking the water and trees around the pond, its eyes glowing with rage. As it began charging up a powerful Dragon Beam attack, Goh turned and bolted toward the others, screaming for help.

Everyone looked up just in time to see Goh sprinting toward them with the enraged Gyarados in hot pursuit. Panic broke out.

"Run!" Akg shouted, immediately taking control.

Ash, Gary, and the rest of their teams dashed toward the camp, yelling in fear. Akg and his teammates also started running, but Serena, Chloe, and Korrina couldn't keep up with the others. Fear gripped them as they stumbled behind.

Seeing this, Akg stopped running and turned back.

"Akg! Run without us!" Serena shouted through tears.

But Akg stood firm in front of them and said, his voice steady and calm, "Korrina, Chloe, Serena—we're a team. I won't leave you behind. I'll protect you… even if it costs me everything."

His words hit their hearts like lightning. The three girls stood frozen, overwhelmed by emotion. Tears welled in their eyes—not from fear, but from the deep impact of his words. In that moment, Akg's image etched itself permanently into their hearts.

The Gyarados unleashed its Dragon Beam, aiming right for them.

Without hesitation, Akg opened the Pokéball hanging around his neck. A flash of light burst out, and Rena appeared, her green hair glowing in the sunlight.

"Rena—Charge Beam!" Akg commanded.

With a gentle hum, energy condensed in Rena's palm, firing a brilliant Charge Beam that collided directly with the incoming Dragon Beam. The two forces clashed for a moment before Rena's attack completely overwhelmed the Gyarados's power, knocking it back and leaving it dazed.

Wasting no time, Akg threw a Pokéball, capturing the Gyarados in one clean motion. Then he recalled Rena back into her ball, whispering a grateful, "Thank you, Rena," knowing she held back and used only her elite-level strength—any more, and the entire area might have been reduced to ashes.

He turned back to the girls. They were still frozen in place, eyes wide and cheeks stained with tears. Gently, Akg walked over, wiped their tears away, and smiled softly.

"I told you—I'll protect you."

At his words, all three girls broke down in tears again and hugged him tightly, overcome with emotion. It took a while for them to calm down, and when they finally let go, they apologized through sniffles.

"Don't be sorry," Akg said warmly. "But please, don't tell anyone about Rena… or the Gyarados. I'll explain everything once we're back at the cabin."

The girls nodded without hesitation. They trusted him more than anyone else.

Just then, Dr. Oak arrived with Ash, Gary, and several camp staff members. "Are you all okay?!" he asked, alarmed.

"We're fine," Akg replied calmly. "The Gyarados suddenly disappeared back into the pond."

Relieved, Dr. Oak nodded. Nurse Joy checked them over to confirm they weren't hurt, and soon they were escorted back to camp to rest.

What they didn't realize was that this day would become one of the most unforgettable moments of the entire summer camp.
