Chapter 14 - fitting in

Julian and Lily decided to play a board game together. They sat down in the living room, and Julian pulled out a chessboard.

"Let's play a game of chess," he said, his eyes sparkling with challenge.

Lily smiled, feeling a sense of excitement. "I've never been very good at chess," she admitted.

Julian's smile grew wider. "I'll go easy on you," he promised.

As they began to play, Lily couldn't help but notice the way Julian's eyes crinkled at the corners when he smiled. She felt a flutter in her chest, and her hands trembled slightly as she made her moves.

Despite her nerves, Lily found herself enjoying the game. Julian was a patient teacher, and he explained the strategies and tactics in a way that made sense to her.

As the game progressed, Lily started to get more confident. She made a few clever moves, and Julian raised an eyebrow in surprise.

"You're a natural," he said, his voice filled with genuine admiration.

Lily beamed with pride, feeling happy that she could impress Julian. As they continued to play, their banter and laughter filled the room, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere.

Just as Julian and Lily were getting into the game, the doorbell rang. Julian's expression turned guarded as he got up to answer it.

"Lily, I'll be right back," he said, his voice neutral.

Lily watched as Julian walked to the door, wondering who could be visiting at this hour. As he opened the door, a stunning woman with long, curly hair and piercing green eyes stepped inside.

"Julian, darling," the woman purred, her voice husky and familiar. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything important."

Lily's eyes narrowed slightly as she watched the woman saunter into the room, her hips swaying seductively. She couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy as Julian's expression softened slightly in response to the woman's greeting.

"Alexandra," Julian said, his voice polite but distant. "What brings you here?"

The woman's gaze flicked to Lily, and her eyes flashed with curiosity. "I see you're entertaining," she said, her tone dripping with innuendo. "I didn't know you were seeing someone new, Julian."

Lily felt a surge of discomfort as Alexandra's gaze lingered on her. Who was this woman, and what was her relationship with Julian?

As Julian introduced Lily as a "friend" to Alexandra, Lily's heart sank. She tried to brush off the feeling, telling herself it was just a casual introduction. But when Julian excused himself and headed to his room with Alexandra, Lily felt a sting of disappointment.

She couldn't help but wonder if she was just a convenient distraction for Julian, someone to fill the gap before he settled down with someone more suitable. The thought made her feel vulnerable and unsure.

As she waited in the living room, Lily's mind began to wander. She thought about the kiss they shared, the way Julian looked at her, and the connection they seemed to have. But now, she wasn't so sure.

Meanwhile, in Julian's room, Alexandra wasted no time getting straight to the point. "So, Julian, what's going on with you and this... girl?" she asked, her voice laced with disdain.

Julian sighed, rubbing his temples. "Alexandra, I thought we agreed—"

"I know what we agreed," Alexandra interrupted, "but I saw the way you looked at her. You're not serious about her, are you?"

Julian's expression turned guarded. "I'm considering my options, Alexandra. That's all I can say for now."

Alexandra's eyes flashed with anger, but she kept her tone light. "Fine, darling. Do what you must. But don't say I didn't warn you."

As Julian stood in his room with Alexandra, he couldn't shake off the feeling that he was torn between his obligations and his growing connection with Lily. Alexandra's presence only served as a reminder of the life he had known before meeting Lily.

The tension in the room was palpable, and Alexandra seemed to sense Julian's distraction. She stepped closer, her voice taking on a persuasive tone. "Julian, we have a history, a connection that can't be easily replicated. Why are you considering someone else?"

Julian's response was measured, his words carefully chosen. "Alexandra, I appreciate what we have, but my circumstances have changed. I need to think about my future, my legacy."

Alexandra's eyes narrowed, her gaze piercing. "And this Lily... she's part of your plan?"

Before Julian could respond, Alexandra's expression shifted, and she leaned in, her lips brushing against his. The kiss was familiar, but it felt hollow compared to the spark Julian had felt with Lily.

As Julian and Alexandra were together in his room, the tension between them was palpable. They had a history, and the familiarity was comforting, but it was clear that Julian's mind was elsewhere. Alexandra sensed it, and her actions were laced with a mix of affection and desperation.

Meanwhile, downstairs, Lily couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. She wondered about the nature of Julian's relationship with Alexandra and whether she had misread the signals entirely. The uncertainty made her question her own feelings.

Alexandra was all over the CEO, she kept on making unpleasant noises to the CEO satisfaction.

Lily stormed into the room, her eyes blazing with a mix of anger and hurt. "I think it's time for you to leave," she said, her voice firm but shaking slightly. Alexandra, who was wrapped in Julian's arms, looked up with a mixture of surprise and defiance.

"And who are you to tell me what to do?" Alexandra asked, her tone dripping with condescension.

Lily stood her ground. "I'm someone who cares about Julian, and I won't stand by while you hurt him or play games with his emotions."

Julian, still caught in the moment, looked at Lily with a mix of confusion and gratitude. "Lily, what's going on?" he asked, his voice a bit rough from the interruption.
