Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Shunya and Ji Yuying stepped out of Ling Hospital after completing her check-up.

The excitement Shunya had felt earlier from "flying" with his wife had completely vanished—washed away by the hospital bill he had just received.

If it weren't for his mother-in-law's insistence, he would've never brought Ji Yuying to this hospital. Not in a million years.

The cost of a simple check-up? His entire savings from the last three weeks of hard labor.

But when he turned to look at his wife—radiant, healthy, and more beautiful than ever—he sighed.

It was worth it.

He could always take extra shifts. The doctor had said she was fine, just in need of better nutrition.

But more importantly—

"Yinyin! Let's go to Baiju Mountains!" Shunya said excitedly.

Ji Yuying blinked in surprise. "For training?" she asked.

Now that she thought about it, Baiju Mountains would likely have richer spiritual energy than the cities. Although she wasn't expecting much, it was still better than nothing.

"Yeah!" Shunya grinned brightly. "We'll climb to the top. I'll carry Mom on my back—and when we reach the peak, you can do that Immortal Fairy Lin Xin thing—you know, when she challenged the heavens!"

A vein popped on Ji Yuying's forehead.

She clenched her fist.

This man. He was treating her cultivation like it was some over-the-top fantasy scene from a children's drama.

"I'm not going anywhere right now," Ji Yuying said, calming herself. "For now, we're going to the antique street."

"And also," she added, "don't tell anyone about my abilities."

A taxi pulled up as they reached the roadside, and the two got in. Ji Yuying told the driver, "Tianan Antique Street, please."

Tianan Antique Street and Jade Street were two of the most iconic destinations in City Lin—places where fortunes could be made with just a bit of luck.

With her awakened cultivation and perception now operating at an immortal level, identifying real antiques from fakes was child's play for Ji Yuying.

Antiques were also cheaper and less risky than jade. The latter involved purchasing raw stones and gambling on whether valuable jade was hidden inside—an investment that required serious capital. And that was something they didn't have right now.

But there was another reason.

She hoped that, by wandering through these places, she might uncover clues about Shunya's strange nature.

Shunya was an anomaly—something she had never encountered, not even in her previous life. She called him that because she didn't know how else to define him.

Mortal? No. What he had done—albeit unconsciously—was something not even divine or primordial beings could achieve. So how could a mere mortal like Shunya possibly do it?

He wasn't the spirit of some heaven-defying treasure either—there was no trace of spiritual energy within him. That much she had confirmed when his wounds healed by themselves, leaving no spiritual signature in the surrounding environment.

She still hadn't told him about the limbo realm—about how he had unknowingly saved her soul. Judging by his behavior, Shunya himself had no idea what he'd done.

It must have been some unconscious reaction. Asking him now would be pointless.

Worse, he'd probably start acting like one of his favorite TV characters and drag her into another one of his ridiculous reenactments.

And yet...

Ji Yuying glanced sideways.

Even though Shunya never acted in awe of anything, nor tried to gain advantages from her power, he genuinely appreciated every little moment of life.

The corners of her lips curved into a rare, soft smile.

She gently took his hand in hers.

Shunya looked up at her in surprise. Though she wore her usual calm expression, the subtle squeeze of her hand said more than words ever could.

His wife was healthy.

Whether she was truly a cultivator from the capital—as she once claimed—or something else entirely, none of it mattered.

To Shunya, whatever his wife said was the absolute truth.

She was the only light in his world.

As their taxi passed through a busy intersection, a black Bentley rolled by in the opposite lane.

Inside the car, an excited voice rang out.

"That's her! That big sister—I just saw her in that car!" Wei Fan shouted, pointing at the departing taxi.

Wei Liang and Fourth Master Wei both looked up in surprise.

"Should I stop that taxi, Father?" asked Wei Shun. With their military license plate, they had the authority to bypass traffic lights if needed.

Wei Liang looked at his son and replied in a dry tone, "Stop a Grandmaster? Don't be foolish. That woman killed three cultivators at my level earlier. Do you really think she'll appreciate being interrupted?"

"We just want to thank her," Wei Shun said, confused.

Wei Liang sighed. His youngest son—impulsive and overly enthusiastic—reminded him of himself in his youth. But he had aged. He had seen things that few ever would.

"Listen, son," Wei Liang said patiently. "The more powerful someone is, the more unpredictable their temper becomes. There's a time and place to approach someone like her. For now, let's just find out who she is. When the time is right, we'll thank her properly."

Wei Fan pouted in the backseat.

"But I really wanted to meet her… and ask her how she could fly! Even you can't fly, Grandpa!"

Wei Liang chuckled at his grandson's honesty but chose not to comment on the "flying" part.

"We'll meet her soon, Xiaofan. For now, let's head to the hospital. Your parents are already there."

"Is Older Sister going to be there too?" Wei Fan asked nervously.

His older cousin always teased him mercilessly. She practiced martial arts with Grandpa and was constantly praised as a 'genius.'

But now, he had seen someone stronger than even Grandpa.

Let's see if she can still tease him after meeting that big sister.

Humph!

And he was going to tell Mom about her too!

After all, if that big sister could fly… maybe she could heal his mother too.

'I hope she can,' thought Wei Fan, clinging to that small but growing hope in his heart.
