Chapter 10: The System's New Function
"System, you're telling me to explore it myself? What am I supposed to figure out? If you don't tell me, how will I know what to do? You're my system, shouldn't you be teaching me step-by-step?"
Orion shook his head helplessly. "Explore it yourself... explore it my foot!"
"Ding! Please explore on your own, Host. This system is not responsible for whether the host knows how to use this system's functions," the system's tone was unchanged, its pace still unhurried.
"Sigh, forget it, forget it. I think I've seen through you, System. You're sure you want me to explore it myself, right? You're positive you won't teach me?"
Orion asked with a slightly threatening tone.
"Ding! Please explore on your own, Host. This system will not respond to the host's requests. Therefore, rather than wasting time with this system, it would be better to go and explore on your own. You might discover how to use this system's functions that way."
"Fine, you're amazing, you win, damn it. I'm a host, for crying out loud! To be ignored by my own system like this... this host is probably one of the most pathetic transmigrators with a system ever!"
Orion was truly helpless; there was absolutely nothing he could do. This system gave him no room for negotiation. He wanted the system to teach him how to use it, but all it would say was to explore on his own. Sigh, so annoying.
"I'm starting to wonder if you're a failed product. Aren't systems supposed to serve their hosts? But you, you actually talk to me like this. Who am I? I'm your host! You're bound to me. If I die, you disappear."
Orion said slowly, his tone filled with displeasure.
"Ding! Detecting that the host has thoughts of slandering this system. Therefore, this system is giving the host one warning. If this system detects any more thoughts of slandering this system, it will activate special means to defend this system's integrity."
"Furthermore, this system is absolutely not a failed product. Failed systems do not have the right to exist. Any system with defects would self-destruct. They would never appear, nor would they be able to bind with a host."
In response to Orion's words, the system's reply seemed somewhat agitated. Orion had never seen the system so worked up since it first activated. He guessed he must have struck a nerve.
"Fine, fine, fine, yes, yes, yes. You're right, System. You're the boss. Whatever you say, goes. I'll be good and won't have any more of these slanderous thoughts about you."
Although that's what Orion said out loud, it wasn't what he was thinking in his heart. "A tiny little system, always threatening me with electrocution. If you've got the guts, then don't use electric shocks to threaten me, hmph."
But these were words Orion would never say aloud, because saying them would likely invite the black-bellied system's electric shock punishment.
"Sigh, being a person is so hard. Being a host is even harder, especially when you're bound to a system like this that threatens you with electric shocks from time to time. It's so tiring, so mentally exhausting!"
After that, Orion lay down on his bed, closed his eyes, and slowly fell asleep in his most comfortable position.
The night passed without a word. The sky soon brightened, and Orion woke up very early.
Waking up, Orion's eyes were hazy with sleep, and he could barely see what was in front of him. He shook his head, rubbed his eyes, and slowly, the world came into focus.
He climbed out of bed and went straight to the bathroom. The first thing to do after waking up was to wash up.
He entered the bathroom, grabbed a white cup and a toothbrush, squeezed out some toothpaste, and prepared to start brushing his teeth.
After brushing his teeth, he took a white towel, wet it with water, and wiped his face. With that, his morning routine was finished.
After washing up, Orion twisted his waist. "It's a new day. I have to do my best today, too. I'll start today. Yes, starting today, I'm going to train my body properly, strengthen my power, and prepare for the Nine-Tails disaster two years from now."
It was possible that in two years, his strength still wouldn't be enough. He still might not be able to fight the Nine-Tails, to have the power to contend with it. But that wasn't something he needed to worry about. He just had to do his best.
Isn't there an old saying in China? "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it."
Even the ancient people of China said so, so why should I worry so much? As long as I do everything I can, do my best, then that's enough. There are still two years, right? I can still improve my strength. I still have time.
After this line of thought, Orion's eyes slowly filled with fighting spirit. Right now, he didn't need to think about anything else. Just do what needs to be done, try his best, and that would be enough.
"Alright, then I'll start by refining chakra. Chakra is an extremely important energy within the body. All ninjutsu require chakra to be used effectively. Without chakra, you can't perform ninjutsu. Today, I'll start by extracting chakra."
Orion once again sat on the bed, crossed his legs, and placed his hands flat on them, preparing to begin today's chakra extraction.
But as soon as Orion closed his eyes to begin extracting chakra, he was stunned.
"What the hell? What is this situation? Why... why is my body automatically extracting chakra? Why can my body extract chakra on its own without me doing anything? Why? Just why?"
Seeing this, Orion couldn't help but curse. This was something he could never have imagined. In the world of Naruto, chakra had to be extracted by a ninja for it to grow bit by bit. There had never been a case where chakra increased automatically without being extracted.
But this was happening in Orion's body, leaving him completely baffled.
Whatever, I'll just ask the system what's going on.
"System, System, get out here quickly! Why is my body automatically increasing my chakra? Is there something wrong with my body?"
Orion asked silently in his mind.
"Ding! Host, please do not panic. The host's body automatically increasing chakra is a function of this system. Once you are bound with this system, the host no longer needs to personally cultivate chakra."
"The host's body will automatically and slowly increase its chakra. There is absolutely no need for you to do it yourself."
"Is that so?"
After hearing the system's explanation, Orion thought for a moment. In that case, doesn't this mean I don't need to train at all? I can increase my strength just by lying in bed and sleeping. I can get stronger without having to do anything.
"Haha, that's really great! Does that mean in two years, I'll have an incredibly powerful amount of chakra? Does that mean I'll be able to beat the Nine-Tails?"
Orion became immersed in his own fantasy, sinking deeper and deeper into it.
