Chapter 1 - When the World Froze

Prolouge:

I Remember first seeing her, it felt surreal, everything

around was frozen, like a blizzard had engulfed all it, but instead of the ice exterior leaving it's mark, behind everything was still a pinkish colour and nothing had been damaged.

Her face, a face of pure unimaginable beauty, long

silver hair, her eyes narrowed as she was staring straight into my soul,

"Who are You... What are you" i mumbled

"i am Rin.. Just rin" She said while giving me a look of

killing intent

After announcing her name to me, she put her hand out and like some sort of manga or anime show light began to sparkle around her hand,

before materializing into a gun.

I couldn't even respond to what i had just seen before, Rin Pointed the old wester style revolver gun at me and said these final words.

"begone i know your one of them and I shall"

She paused for a split second looking down with a regretful face before she lifting it back up

"I shall Kill every last single one of you, Humans"

She paused again before finishing her sentence as if to almost doubting what she was about to say but nevertheless she said it "human" she said

that word as if she, wasn't one her self? But it was something that I did not have the luxury of thinking too long about because in that split second of her

finishing that sentence the sound of the gun clicking and then Bang...

Chapter 1:

When the World Froze.

*knock* Knock* the door to a college students' apartment was being viciously attacked by someone

"Heyy Kentaro Wake up!! It's almost time for first class"

A girl shouted a desperate cry

But her cries for this boys awakening worked. He rolled over his small bed and gazed at his alarm clock on the side of his bed, he couldn't see at first due to the blurriness of his vision, but he knew he saw that it

said something. Without a second wasted he blinked, rubbed his eyes a couple of times, and the once blurry clock became crystal clear.

"OMG IT'S 9:50 HOLY CRAP IM GONNA BE LATE!!'

Kentaro screamed, he quickly jumped up from his bed like a Olympic athlete competing in a "getting up from the bed Competition." he ran to the other side of the small bedroom into the his bathroom where he'd hastily brushed his teeth gave his hair a little water to part his hair down the middle, then like it was a natural born skill he took his bag of the hook on the wall from his small living room, then swung it around over him and ran outside to meet the girl who called out for him.

As he ran to his gate the girl's face who would usually have a total annoyed look, would instead be completely shocked accompanied by her white skin going tomato red,

"Hey umm Kentaro" she whispered.

Yeah what's up, and why is it so cold the suns out" he said as he began to rub his hands together.

And in fact it was indeed warm, it was around 17 degrees which wasn't cold at all in fact more on the warmer side to his usually chilly city of Oshawa.

But there was something he completely forgot during his massive shock of not wanting to be late.

It took him a while but as the first gust of wind hit him everything would unravel its self, Kentaro looked down then looked back at Tenka who now was avoiding complete eye contact with him , then he looked straight down, going completely red himself, then as a single car drove by with an old man sitting on the passenger seat taking a photo to really set the comedical .

Kentaro would break the silence.

"AHHHHHHH WHAT HOW COULD I FORGET!!"

He shouted while running back to his apartment, realising that in his haste he forgot to get out on time

and to not be late for his first day of college, he forgot the most basic of basic necessities humans need especially going to the a public school.....Clothes, somehow he managed to forget to wear anything apart from his shorts, (Boxers)

The girl who was waiting for him still blushing from what she had just seen began to giggle as she found the whole thing extremely funny bare the fact it was a bit uncomfortable as well.

After 5 more minutes of waiting, Kentaro finally came out from his apartment. This time dressed with a white shirt and a pair of black jeans. When he walked towards the girl still waiting for him he blushed.

"Sorry you had to see that Tenka. But did you see that old guy just take a photo of me half-dying inside? Okay but, like, you definitely saw everything, huh. Please tell me

that wasn't real life. Just tell me I'm dreaming and I passed out in the hallway."

Tenka giggled as she step closer to Kentaro, Tenka the girl who was waiting for Kentaro was also going to the same college as him in fact they were doing the same business studies subject. She was around 5,2ft with long black hair reaching her lower half of her body. She was what you call the colleges top 10. It was not only her body and appearance that stood out but also her kind demeanour that she showed to people as she walked through the college. One of her biggest features were her dark reddish eyes that almost look black during the day but at night you could tell they were red as the light from the moon would gaze on them. But to Kentaro she was just his child hood friend. Tenka smiled as she waved with both hands gesturing it was okay.

"Honestly Kentaro it's alright I knew this was going to

happen."

She said in a normal condescending tone, it would take Kentaro a second to catch on as his smile was wiped away by the "I knew this was going to

happen."comment he sighed as the old her.

"you really think that low of me."

He said as he gazed down. Tenka seeing that she did kind of crush his self confidence, bent down a bit to match eye level with her flowing her hair across her eye and around her ear lope as her eyes connect with his.

"Even if you are the most useless, I'll always be with you."

Those words Kentaro had heard many of times but not like this it was different there was sincerity behind them words that brung a happiness to his life.

The two stared at each other for second before Tenka turned towards the road and gestured Kentaro to get moving.

"We might be late but let's not miss the entire first lesson Ken!"

She shouted before speed walking down the road. Kentaro stood there for a second still processing what she said before,

that it felt different, he didn't know why it hit him hard but either way Kentaro knew that he needed to get moving before she left him behind.

*

Kentaro and Tenka would arrive at the door to the lecture room where it was clear that class had already started without them, Kentaro took a peek through the glass that was horizontally placed on the door and saw it was a full house, everyone was in attendance. "That's strange Kentaro muttered" Tenka looking at Kentaro asked him.

"What's going on why aren't we entering?"

She whispered while still looking at Kentaro, but she got no answer in fact, Kentaro's face started contorting to more of a shocked look, his mouth began to open wide as he slowly stuttered… "Ten-ka umm.. this might sound strange but everyone is in class, but well... that's not the crazy thing" he said while still staring through the glass

"It's the that fact everyone is still.. like as statues."

He began taking a step back. Tenka confused would take up the space where he last was and would peek through the glass, to her astonishment what Kentaro had said was the truth, everyone was stood still even the professor was still standing in the middle of the 'stage' where he looked to be explaining something to his class. Tenka was shocked but her face didn't show it, it was natural, she wasn't the type of girl to make faces, even in situations like these but what she did do was turn to Kentaro and whispered

"Listen we're not going in there we need to go now PRONTO!"

The last word she shouted under her breath. Seeing what she said, Kentaro had nothing to say back but to do as he was told but there was one question still lingering that he wanted to say but felt it had to wait. Why did they run and not go inside of the room. He looked back at Tenka who was following behind him as they managed to reach another classroom door, all the doors, corridors were the same colour and size. It was like a endless loop but it actually wasn't, just whoever designed the school was clearly uninspired. After they stopped, Kentaro bent over, clutching his knees and gasping for breath. Two minutes of running and he was already dying — chest heavy, lungs on fire. Tenka, who had kept pace the whole time, barely looked winded. She shot him a glance — not angry, just… disappointed. Like she was silently asking.

Really? That's all you've got?

Kentaro didn't care. Not about pride. Not about how dumb he probably looked. He just wanted answers. But before he could stand up straight and

ask, Tenka had already moved on. She stepped past him, her expression unreadable, and peered through the clear window in the door ahead.

To her surprise it was the same, everyone was still. The teacher, the students, she could see that the teacher was in the middle of dropping his pen, It looked to be a demonstration of some sort to his students, but just like everything and everyone else, the pen was also frozen in mid air. She took a step back and put her hand on her chin and began to think what was going on, Kentaro on the other hand finally caught his breath and opened his mouth.

"Tenka what is going on you clearly must know something the way you've been going, It seems weird tell me!"

He pleaded but Tenka just shook

her head and told him bluntly.

" I wish I could tell you, but truth be told, I don't know anything. This is weird, everyone's frozen, what is causing this."

She stood there still trying to solve the mystery behind this odd situation. Kentaro's face dropped in frustrated that he hadn't got any answers, he would have then investigated

the same classroom, and as he began to scour the hundred or so students in the room, he noticed something, Or more like someone...

She looked like she was in her late teens, maybe early twenties — but that wasn't what struck him. It was her hair. Silver. Not platinum blonde or dyed ash, but a true, metallic silver, like moonlight melted into strands. It shimmered even in the dull fluorescent classroom light, framing her face like a veil of cold fire. In Oshawa, where Kentaro and Tenka

lived, hair like that just… didn't exist. Most people had shades of black, brown, or the occasional deep auburn. Natural redheads were rare. But silver?

He'd never seen it outside of anime. And yet here she was — sitting like a statue, unmoving, expression unreadable. Her skin was pale, not sickly, but

smooth and glassy, like she didn't quite belong to the same air everyone else breathed. Her eyes, downcast but alert, were a shade he couldn't pin — some unnatural mix of violet and smoke. She wore the school's standard uniform, but the way it sat on her — the precision, the sharpness, made it look like something out of a military portrait. Not a single wrinkle. Not a button out of place. Kentaro felt himself drifting closer without realising it. It was as if

something was pulling him towards her — or maybe pushing everything else away.

The door that once held a safety net between them and the frozen phenomenon was opened by Kentaro, Tenka who facing towards the hall quickly turned to face him to scold him for his stupidity but as soon she turned around and opened her mouth he had already entered the room. Quickly without wasting any time she rushed in behind him and without shouting or whispering too quietly. She tried to call him back out but he wasn't listening. He just continued to walk towards the girl who was 5 rows up, He reached the middle of the lecture hall, where the floor dipped into stairs, allowing students to climb towards the upper seats. He stepped forward, one foot at a time, his heartbeat thudding louder with each movement. He didn't know why he was walking towards her, the girl in the on the 5th row. Maybe it was instinct. Maybe it was curiosity. Or maybe it was the vibe, the whole room felt like some cursed indie horror game where something could lurch out of a desk at any second. Tenka didn't say a word, but he felt her eyes on his back, sharp, tense, like she was holding her breath. That alone should've stopped him. But it didn't. He reached the third row. That's

when he felt it, a sudden tug on his shirt from behind. He turned around and saw Tenka with a face he'd had not seen in years… it was a look of fear, The normal cool, calm collected Tenka, that no matter the situation had always had a neutral expression on her face, Had now a look of pure terror.

"Let's get out, you stupid prick — we're gonna get seriously injured or die!"

She snapped, grinding her teeth.

The words stopped him cold.

They hit harder than they should've, like being shot in the chest, not by a bullet, but by someone who actually cared. He didn't say anything. Just stared at her for a moment, her clenched jaw, the fear behind the fury, and finally nodded.

"Yeah… okay."

He turned to follow her, but just before stepping away, he looked back, one last glance.

The silver-haired girl..

who had shattered the whole room without even standing up.

But that's when it happened..

Kentaro recognized the expression instantly. Her face — blank, frozen, staring just slightly downward like the rest of the students. Like a statue trying to blend in. But something was off. Despite Tenka pulling at his arm, Kentaro leaned in, inching his head closer, his body refusing to obey. His eyes locked onto hers. And for just a second, it felt like his soul left his body. Then Tenka snapped. "LET'S MOVE, KENTARO!" Her voice cracked with frustration. And in that moment, like a glitch in reality,

the silver-haired girl moved. Her eyes lifted. And locked directly with his.

"TENKA SHE JUST MOVED HER EYE!" Kentaro's

voice cracked through the silence, louder than he intended. He stumbled back a step, heart slamming against his ribs. His hand shot out to grab Tenka's sleeve like it was instinct, like she was the only thing anchoring him to reality.

Tenka's head snapped towards the seat where the silver haired girl was sitting.

Her eyes locked on the girl.

She sat on the 5th row still as glass, silver hair cascading over her shoulder, a perfect symmetry to

her face that didn't look drawn by genetics, but carved. Her expression was wrong. Her lips were

curled, just slightly, into something far worse than a smile.

It was satisfaction.

Pleasure.

And it was directed straight at Kentaro.

Tenka's body tensed. Her hand shot out gripping Kentaro by the wrist.

"We need to go." she hissed "Now. Run."

He didn't ask why. He didn't have time.

They turned and bolted.

The hallway stretched before them, plain white walls, grey floor tiles, strip lighting flickering just slightly overhead. But something was off. The air felt thick, syrupy. Each step landed heavier than the last. Kentaro could feel it in his ears, pressure building, like the air itself was holding its breath.

Behind them, loud sounds began to rise. Not a scream. Not footsteps.

A hum. Mechanical. Inevitable.

And then the corridor detonated.

It wasn't fire or heat that hit him first, it was sound.

A sharp, single-tone rupture like the world tearing at it's seams. A force hurled him sideways, but he didn't land. He just... stopped.

Everything froze.

Kentaro braced for impact, arms shielding his face, expecting the force to tear through him... but nothing came. He didn't feel his back hit the floor. No heat, no pain. Not even sound. Slowly..hesitantly, he peeled one hand away from his face and cracked open his left eye. What he saw iced him.. The explosion was still there... but stopped mid-burst, flames suspended in the air like molten sculptures. Time hadn't slowed...it had halted, like the whole scene had been snap-frozen. A purplish hue blanketed the room, dim and unnatural, as if the very air had shifted into another dimension. Kentaro moved his hands away from his face completely and looked around. Everything was still... even Tenka, who is standing right in front of him, her face locked in a frozen scream, eyes wide, mouth open, horror carved into expression.

"TENKA! TENKA! HEY CAN YOU HEAR ME?"

Kentaro flung his arms in front of Tenka, but nothing would work, there seemed to be a barrier between her and him, so he couldn't directly touch her, but he had a feeling even if he could she wouldn't wake up from her current state, as he was staring at the soulless body of Tenka, feeling helpless that he couldn't do anything. His heart began to beat violently because he began to turn around towards the direction of where the silver haired girl sat, every inch he moved his head, his breath became more and more shallow and the sweat from his forehead began more and more intense.

Until.

He made visual contact with where the girl was sitting, and to his horror, she wasn't there anymore.

"Thats a strange face to wear."

A woman softly said in Kentaro's ear. He felt each word tickling his ear, her breath gave a warm air to his right ear lobe.

"WHAT THE!"

Kentaro jumped, falling forwards, trying to create a distance between him and this sudden voice. He turned around quickly to find out who was behind him, and to his horror it was her... the silver haired woman that infatuated his eyes. When he first saw her and also, the same woman who moved and was most likely the one who caused this entire mess.

How did she get behind me?

He thought to himself, no footsteps. No shift of light. Just... presence. As if the room adjusted to itself around her, and now she was behind him staring right into his soul.

"Hehehehehe."

The girl quietly cried out as she began to walk next to Tenka, slowly stroking her chin and then eventually touching her places where Kentaro would not dare to dream of.

"My my my my my. It seems your not frozen.... could it be your like me?"

She said while still gazing into Kentaro's soul. Kentaro, who was still shaken from her sudden suggestive touch, he opened his mouth and spoke, blunty, his voice wobbling beneath forced courage.

"W-who are you a-and what are you? A-and what do you mean by I'm like you?"

The fear in his tone wasn't subtle, it clung to his words, like a shadow. But before he could even blink, the silver haired girl was there. A finger's length from his face, her speed too fast for his eye to track. Still locking him in the place with that impossible stare, she leaned in and whispered.

"You want to see what happens if I unfreeze her mouth.. but not her lungs?"

His body jolted. For some reason, he knew what she meant. The horror of it, painted his face crimson.

"N-no, what the hell are you talking about?"

He tried to play dumb-to throw it off like it didn't affect him. But she wasn't buying it. Her smile deepened.

"Heeeheeheee... it seems I have a gentleman among me. Such a wonderful boy you are... truly."

She turned, gliding past Tenka's frozen body with eerie aura, eventually the distance from him reaching Tenka had grown closer. Expanded just enough that he still couldn't touch her. He panicked, glancing towards the stairs, the only clear path he could take. He hurried down, step by step mid-pose. But his escape ended there. The doors were sealed, or worse... untouchable, as if wrapped in invisible walls. He reached out, but his hand stopped inches away from the surface, blocked by something he couldn't see. No choice. He turned back towards where he had walked from, and just like a scene out of a horror film, there she was. Still walking. Slowly, beautiful, terrifyingly so. It made everything worse. Her face wasn't just elegant, it was a weapon. And that smile? That crooked, wide, delighted smile? It only grew the closer she came. Her giggle returned. High-pitched, off-beat. Kentaro's back hit the wall. He'd run out of options. With nothing left, he spoke, not defiant, just tired.

"What's your name...and just who are you? If you're going to kill me, at least give me that"

She stopped. Three feet away. A pause. Then, with a voice like silk draped over steel, she opened her mouth to answer.

"My name is Rin. Just Rin. And what am i.....?"

She tilted her head. Her smile didn't falter.

"That's the funny part. No one knows. Not your scientists. Not your little task forces with their shiny weapons. You've tried to name us. Classify us. Kill us."

Her voice dropped.

"You call us Aberrants. Refractions. Aberlines. But none of you understand what we actually are... we weren't made. We weren't born. We were... left behind. Your world cracked..."

She snapped her finger as if to actually shatter reality.

"and we stepped through the spaces in between. And now? You chase us like a cat chasing a rat. You humans... always so afraid of what you don't remember."

Kentaro, frozen still trying to figure out what she was saying, but nothing would make sense no matter how hard he thought about it. He opened his mouth this time demanding answers.

"Scientists? Task forces? Why are they after you?"

Kentaro's voice cracked with urgency.

"What are you? Why would they want to kill you?"

Rin blinked. Just once. The smile slipped from her face, not all the way, but enough. His words had touched something. But even if only for a split second. Once that second was over her devilish smile reappeared. She tapped her finger against her chin

"Mmmm... what's their name again? Project Broomsticks? Suit Squad 5..? No, no wait....."

She snapped her fingers

"Mecha-Mecha Squad. That's the one."

Her grin returned, wider than ever.

"Always stomping around like tin soldier in a cartoon."

"HUH!"

Kentaro blurted out from his mouth.

"Mecha-Mecha, What?"

He echoed, Blinking. Rin still smiling would nod up and down as if she was proud of the name she had given these mysterious people.

"Hahahaha."

Kentaro laughed nervously, still trying to process Rin's absurd name for them, but fun and games wouldn't last as in a split second her smiling face would change to a stern and serious look. She looked straight at Kentaro then up to the ceiling, briefly letting out two words.

"They're here."

The next moment was nothing but chaos a loud explosion erupted as the ceiling classroom collapsed decimating most of the students inside. Kentaro fell over due to the sudden shock and closed his eyes.. because he saw a big chunk of the ceiling collapsing above him, heading straight towards him.

"I'm gonna to die. I'm going to die!"

He rapidly repeated like a mantra. His body iced out of pure fear and his natural survival instincts would fail him at such a crucial time. He sat there as the rock was a mere couple of feet away.

"Tenka"

He silently whispered as he watches helplessly, closing his eyes hoping it would be over quickly, but before the piece of ceiling could crush him, a pinkish aura surrounded him, confused he fully opened his eyes looking at what this could be and he saw her.. Rin standing next to him with hand one pointing straight at the falling rock, her hair shining even through the pinkish aura surrounding them, her purplish eyes set focused on the rock. It was then when Kentaro managed to figure out the purpose of this pink aura surrounding them.

"This is a shield"

He whispered not loud enough for Rin to hear him. He stared all while taking a gulp as the once devastating piece of ceiling that could easily flatten a lorry crumbled to tiny pieces as soon as it contacted Rin's shield, it was when the danger was dealt with, Rin lowered her head and looked straight forward perhaps thinking of a strategy. But Kentaro wouldn't moved or say anything.. because he was so fixated on Rin's beauty, her side profile looked angelic not a single scratch on her pale skin. Kentaro knew if he had the chance to rub his hand on her skin he could guarantee that it would be soft and smooth as butter. It was up to this point he'd only really seen her disturbing and her goofy side but as he continued to stare at her while she was staring forward with a face he'd yet to see. A face that showed her natural adult like beauty, he couldn't help but feel his heart skip a few beats.

"What are you staring at? Is there something wrong with your eyes?"

Rin muttered as she changed her face and tone to a serious one.

Kentaro turned his face away attempting to not make eye contact with her. But since Rin had saved his life from ending, he turned his face back to the smiling Rin to thank her.

"Y-you saved me, thank you"

He stuttered but to his surprise, Rin wasn't all that cheerful in fact she seemed to give him a disdained look. She took a step forward before she scowled at him.

"I don't need your thanks, you were just nearby."

She muttered as she began to look back up at the now broken ceiling, her face had changed to a look of regret. It was as if her personality had done a full 180 from happy, playful to now serious and resentful. Kentaro confused would try ask why she had gone cold on him, but before he could she cut him off.

"Human, it seems your buddy has arrived to try eliminate me."

Listening to them words and also the previous words of her in with the 'Mecha Squad'. It was clear that Rin believed that Kentaro and these Mecha people were together planning something. Kentaro had no knowledge and no intentions of been or helping these mysterious people blurted out without no hesitation

"WHO ARE THEY, I DON'T KNOW THEM, PLEASE BELIEVE ME!"

He kept shouting till he slowly calmed down following his last statement trying prove his innocence.

"I-i don't know what's going on with Rin."

He said almost sounding dejected, as if he knew she wasn't going to believe him. Rin slowly turned her head towards him and now with her arm down.

"Tsch, your just the same, thought you were different, but unlike the other humans it seems you can move around freely within my power, and with everything that's happening. It looks like you want to kill me as well."

Kentaro paused.

Not of what she had said but the look she gave as she said this, it was of pure sadness, something Kentaro had seen many years ago when he first met Tenka during his early middle school days. It was a face that he never knew a woman of her beauty could make.

Without saying a word.

Kentaro began to stand ready to confront Rin, ready to tell her that he wasn't a threat and that she was wrong about him. He even had his words lined up. The right mix of defiance and empathy, or so he thought. But like most things in his life, it didn't go to plan. The moment he shifted his weight onto his left leg, Rin's eyes flickered downward, her expression unreadable, but clearly unimpressed. Then in a flash, she lifted her foot and kicked his leg out from under him. Pain shot through him as he collapses backward onto the cold floor with a thud, breath knocked from his lungs.

He began to grimace due to the pain, her kick might have looked soft, But it felt like a steel bat had been swung by a professional baseball player onto his leg, but even with the pain that normally would have took him days to get used too, He sat upright, still seated on the floor, his teeth clenched as he tried to swallow the pain radiating from him leg. His breath came short, shallow, but his voice forced itself out anyway.

"Rin... please. l-listen."

His voice cracked, but he didn't stop.

"I want to help you. That look on your face, I've seen it before. it's not anger. It's despair. That's the face of someone who doesn't want to be alone anymore!"

Rin's smirk returned. But it was colder this time, almost trembling, like the edge of something breaking.

"Oh I see. You think you know me now, Do you?"

she said, stepping forward.

"You don't."

"you don't know anything, You fool."

Her tone sharpened. The playful lilt was gone.

Then she raised her hand.

Light sparked to life around her palm, glowing like embers caught in the wind, until it twisted and forged into the shape of a black, old style revolver, matte and glinting with unnatural sliver lines pulsing down the barrel.

A weapon pulled from emotion. From memory. From somewhere she shouldn't still have access to.

Kentaro couldn't even respond to what he'd just seen, not before Rin raised her arm and levelled the old western- revolver at him, it's barrel gleaming like something from another world.

"Begone."

She muttered, eyes hard.

"Know you're one of them. And i'll kill every last one of you... human."

Kentaro stared into the barrel of her gun, heart pounding.

"Why me?"

He asked, voice trembling.

"What did I ever do to you? I want to help damn!"

The emotion cracked through. No more pretending. No more holding back.

A swirl of dark red light spun around the tip of Rin's gun, coalescing into a glowing orb that pulsed with deadly pressure.

She looked at him.

Not with rage. Not anymore.

With regret.

Kentaro saw it- I knew it.

But she wasn't going to stop.

"Well...then sa-"

She never finished

Not because of impact.

Because of pressure.

A sound rose from above, thin, sharp, like a distant storm trying to scream.

Then...

CRACK.

A sonic snap tore through the air.

They came down in lines of fire, seven sleek figures wrapped in chrome and black, jet screams behind them like burning comets.

The ground boomed under their boots. The hallway shook.

Rin didn't flinch.

Her eyes narrowed.

And her smile came back.

Cooling vents hissed. Gear unlocked. Rin didn't flinch. She rolled her eyes.

"Mecha Mecha squad with jetpacks this time. How Cute."

Kentaro began to look around him as they were now surrounded by these people, he could tell instantly that these were 'Mecha Mecha' people that Rin was talking about. They didn't wear full armour like regular soldiers; shoulders, chest, boots and knees were plated in dark grey composites, etched with symbols he couldn't read. Most of them had these glasses that looked like sunglasses, but wouldn't take a genius to realise that they were more than sunglasses. As they stood around pointing their rifles at both Rin and Kentaro , their matte black polymer was faintly glowing, like their suits were alive breathing light through the seams.

"Ahh it seems our playtime is over, dear Kenny"

Rin said while lifting her free hand.

"OPEN FIRE NOW!"

A woman wearing the mechanical suit shouted, but it was too late. Rin had produced another layer of her pink barrier, instantly deflecting the laser bullets that the soldiers shot. Kentaro noticed as the second barrier was unveiled. The sounds of the soldiers shouts and screams along with the bullets became mute as if the barrier also acted as an instant soundproof room.

"Well then Renny maybe our paths will cross again"

She said while smiling.

Kentaro tried to get up, but the leg Rin had kicked throbbed with deep, sharp pain; bruised to the point he couldn't even put weight on it.

It didn't matter.

He looked up once more.. and there it was. The barrel of Rin's revolver, pointed straight at him again.

But this time... she looked different.

Not cold. Not furious.

She was smiling.

A strange, quiet smile.

And for a second, a calmness washed over him- something peaceful, something wrong.

But he knew it was already too late

Then he heard her voice, soft, low, and almost fond.

"If you want answers, Renny... you'll have to find me again."

She tilted her head.

"Phase Step."

The world shattered.

And everything went black...
