Chapter 1 - 《Harry Potter: My Life as Hermione》Chapter 1: Hermione Granger

Qin Yu had always thought of himself as just an ordinary person—never the sort to do anything world-shaking.

That is, until the day he saw an out-of-control lorry barreling toward the curb, where a terrified child stood frozen in its path.

Without a second thought, Qin Yu lunged forward, shoving the child to safety. The next instant, the lorry slammed into him with all the force of a cannonball.

He felt himself lifted clean off his feet, the world spinning away as his consciousness plunged into a bottomless darkness.

When Qin Yu finally came to, he found himself lying in a sunlit room with enormous glass windows.

He glanced around, taking in the vintage furnishings and the distinctly European—perhaps British—decor. There was an old-world charm to it all.

One thing was certain: this was no hospital.

Blinking in confusion, he tried to piece together what had just happened.

Before he could gather his thoughts, a young girl's voice rang out in English: "Dad! Mum! He's awake! He's really awake!"

Her words were laced with nervous excitement.

Wait, am I in someone else's house? I was just hit by a truck—shouldn't I be in a hospital?

Before Qin Yu could say a word, the little girl beside him launched into a barrage of questions. "Hello, what's your name? Do you remember what happened? Where do you live?"

Having been severely nearsighted in his previous life, Qin Yu instinctively reached for his glasses—only to come up empty-handed. He rubbed his eyes and looked at the girl, surprised to find that he could see her perfectly.

Her delicate skin, long lashes, and bright, intelligent eyes—all were crystal clear.

So this is what the world looks like in focus. The sensation was almost exhilarating.

Could getting hit by a truck have cured my nearsightedness? I've heard LASIK costs a fortune—guess I got lucky!

Snapping back to the present, he studied the little girl more closely. She seemed oddly familiar, as if he'd seen her somewhere before—maybe in a film?

He shook his head to clear his thoughts, then asked, a bit uncertain, "Aren't you… um… that girl?"

His mind was still foggy from waking up; the name hovered on the tip of his tongue, but refused to come out.

The girl frowned at him. "Do you know me?"

She was adorably befuddled—brown curls, bright eyes, and a faint, knowing smile at the corners of her lips.

Qin Yu's thoughts raced. Suddenly, it clicked. Wasn't this the clever girl from the Harry Potter films?

He'd watched them countless times with a female friend. At first, he thought Harry Potter was just a fairy tale draped in magical trappings—a simple adventure story about friends overcoming obstacles. But the more he watched, the more he realized: it was really a warm, bittersweet coming-of-age tale.

"Hermione Granger?!" he blurted out, finally recalling the curly-haired girl's name.

At the sound of her name, Hermione shrank back, her eyes going wide in shock—almost comically so.

To Qin Yu, she looked utterly adorable.

Realizing he might have said something odd, he quickly changed the subject. "Why am I here?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, he froze. Only then did he realize he'd been speaking English the whole time. He'd been too disoriented to notice before.

What, did that accident give me a built-in translator?

Well, at least there wouldn't be any language barrier.

At this age, Hermione looked to be about ten. Qin Yu was more familiar with her older self, which explained why he hadn't recognized her right away.

After hearing his question, Hermione blinked her big eyes, thought for a moment, then replied with careful seriousness:

"Well, a few days ago, you suddenly appeared in the street ahead, and my dad accidentally hit you with his car." (She put a pointed emphasis on "accidentally.") "Dad took you to the hospital—they checked your head and your body, and you were fine. But you just wouldn't wake up. We couldn't find your family, either, and Dad felt responsible, so he brought you home. We're just glad you finally woke up!"

She let out a long sigh of relief.

Qin Yu frowned. This didn't add up. After being hit by a speeding lorry, he should've been seriously hurt—if not worse. Yet, he felt perfectly fine.

"Are you all right? Does anything hurt?" Hermione asked, concern written all over her face.

She reached out to touch his forehead, checking for a fever.

When he didn't react, she waved both hands in front of his eyes.

With a helpless sigh, Qin Yu gently pushed her hands away. I'm fine, not blind, he wanted to say.

But the moment he moved his hand, he froze. Why was his hand so small?

"What's happened to my hand?" he cried, startled.

He leapt out of bed, caught sight of a mirror on the table, and snatched it up.

The face staring back at him was young—shockingly young—and bore more than a passing resemblance to his own childhood self. He was too stunned to speak.

It felt as though a thousand magical beasts were stampeding through his mind.

My age and voice have changed! Is this… transmigration? Did my soul cross over, or did my whole body just get younger? What on earth is going on?

He couldn't make sense of it. Dazed, he set the mirror back on the table.

Seeing him suddenly go blank, Hermione panicked. She clearly felt out of her depth and dashed downstairs, calling, "Dad! Mum! Why aren't you coming up?!"

Qin Yu paid her no mind. He just flopped onto the bed, lost in thought.

If Hermione exists in this world, does that mean magic does too? Is this world really the same as my old one?

Just then, a pleasant chime echoed in his mind:

Ding! Host emotional state stable. System automatically activating!

Stable? You've got to be kidding! Qin Yu snapped back instinctively.

But then he paused, heart pounding. System? Was that… really the system?

The voice ignored him and continued:

Ding! Greetings, Host. Welcome to the magical world. This is the Divine Choice System. Please choose one of the following Initial Choices to complete system binding:

Option One: Become a Muggle (ordinary person). Reward: Ten million pounds.

Option Two: Obtain Obscurus Power and become a wizard. Note: If you choose this, the system will help you eliminate the negative effects of the Obscurus.

Hearing the system's words, Qin Yu felt a surge of excitement. Fate hadn't abandoned him after all—he'd been granted a system!

But which option should he choose? For a moment, he hesitated.

——Dimensional Wall——

Note 1: "Muggle" refers to an ordinary person with no magical ability. There are also "Squibs"—children of wizards who cannot use magic.

Note 2: "Obscurus Power" is a powerful, uncontrollable dark force from J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts series, which shares the same universe as Harry Potter.
