Chapter 5 - 《Harry Potter: My Life as Hermione》Chapter 5: Dumbledore’s Invitation

The moment Hermione finished speaking, Mr. and Mrs. Granger exchanged a long, silent look—one filled with worry and resignation.

It seemed their family had gained another wizarding child.

Truth be told, they'd suspected as much for a while. After all, Hermione had always been different, and they'd already experienced the strangeness that came with raising a magical daughter.

When Hermione was little, the Grangers had noticed she wasn't quite like other children. Odd things happened around her—things they couldn't explain, and which caused them no small amount of anxiety.

Eventually, a professor from the wizarding world visited to explain everything. She assured them that, when Hermione turned eleven, she'd be invited to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and learn how to control her magic.

At the zoo, the Grangers had sensed something unusual as well. At the time, they'd assumed it was Hermione's doing. Now, it was clear that Qin Yu was the true source—and, judging by the fallen tree, his accidental magic was far more destructive than Hermione's ever was.

Both parents found themselves thinking the same thing: If only eleven would come sooner! These kids need proper magical schooling—our nerves can't take much more of this.

"Qin, do you think you could move the tree?" Mr. Granger asked, half-hopeful.

Qin Yu shook his head, looking sheepish. "Sorry, I can't really control my powers at will yet."

Mr. Granger sighed, starting the car. "I suppose I should have expected that answer. Well, we'll just have to circle back and take the long way home."

And so, after a lengthy detour, the Grangers finally made it back. As for the tree, well, they left that for the neighbors to sort out.

From what Qin Yu knew, the magical world always had some kind of governing body—one that monitored the boundary between wizards and Muggles, keeping things in balance and preventing magical interference in the non-magical world.

That body was, of course, the Ministry of Magic.

Now, with his Obscurus Power having gone haywire—and after yanking a tree out of the ground—he was certain the Ministry would be alerted.

Would they come for him? Would he be taken away? With no answers, all he could do was wait, nerves stretched thin.

There were, in fact, plenty of wizards living among Muggles.

That day at the zoo, everything had been witnessed by a passing witch—Professor McGonagall.

She'd been there in her tabby cat form, keeping a discreet eye on Harry Potter and his family.

Dumbledore had always said that as long as Harry remained with the Dursleys, he'd be safe from Death Eaters. Still, McGonagall couldn't help but check in from time to time, fighting the urge to give the Dursleys a piece of her mind.

This time, she'd seen more than just Harry setting a python free—she'd witnessed Qin Yu and Hermione as well.

Without delay, she Apparated to Hogsmeade, then walked the rest of the way to Hogwarts—since Apparition doesn't work inside the school grounds—to inform Headmaster Dumbledore of what she'd seen.

Learning that Harry could speak Parseltongue had already surprised Dumbledore. Discovering that a ten-year-old Muggle-born boy possessed such wild power made him realize this was a matter requiring his personal attention.

He decided to meet this child himself.

"Qin, I finished this problem before you did!" Hermione announced with a triumphant little smirk.

Ever since Qin Yu moved in, Hermione's status as the resident academic star had been under siege. Whether it was math, English, science, or history, Qin Yu always seemed to be a step ahead. The only subject where she still held her ground was art—and that was only because Qin Yu's drawings were, frankly, dreadful.

"Nice job," Qin Yu replied absentmindedly, barely glancing at her work.

Truth was, he felt uneasy all day, as though something was about to happen. He had no energy to spare for a ten-year-old's pride.

Then, suddenly, his eyes widened in astonishment.

Floating outside the window was an elderly man with a long white beard, smiling and nodding kindly at him.

"Dum… Dum…" Qin Yu stammered, excitement bubbling up.

Hermione cocked her head. "Dum? Dum what, Qin? What's wrong?"

He turned to her, voice trembling. "You can't see him?"

She looked around, confused. "See who?"

Qin Yu recognized the visitor at once—it was the Headmaster of Hogwarts.

Relief washed over him. Finally, someone who can help. I don't have to keep worrying anymore.

A moment later, Dumbledore stepped through the window, waved his hand gently, and Hermione yawned, then slumped forward onto her desk, fast asleep.

"Don't worry about Hermione," Dumbledore said, his tone gentle. "I've just sent her off to dreamland for a bit, so we can talk in peace."

"I know you wouldn't harm her, Professor. You're a good man," Qin Yu replied, offering a quick compliment.

"Oh? You know who I am?" Dumbledore looked mildly surprised.

"Of course. Hermione has told me all about the wizarding world. You're quite famous, even among Muggle-borns," Qin Yu replied, using the sleeping girl as a convenient excuse.

"Well, that saves me the trouble of introductions," Dumbledore chuckled.

Without preamble, he continued, "My boy, you're not an ordinary child. Are you aware of that?"

"…I suppose I am, a little. There's a power inside me I can't control. Strange things keep happening around me. You're here because of the tree, aren't you? I'm sorry—I didn't mean to…" Qin Yu looked up, eyes full of guilt.

"The tree? Ah, so that was you as well. Another little complication, it seems," Dumbledore said, raising his eyebrows in surprise.

"Wait, you didn't know?" Qin Yu flushed, embarrassed.

Dumbledore's eyes twinkled. "No need to be anxious. I'm here to help you, not to scold you," he said, his gaze suddenly turning deep and penetrating.

He studied the boy before him, as if peering straight into his soul—and into the wellspring of power within.

"Ah, I see. It's been a long time since I've encountered something like this…" Dumbledore's voice was tinged with awe and concern.

The look on his face made Qin Yu nervous. "Professor Dumbledore, what exactly is this power inside me?"

"It's a powerful and dangerous force known as the Obscurus Power. Such magic hasn't been seen in decades… But don't worry. With proper guidance, you'll be just fine," Dumbledore reassured him.

Qin Yu hesitated, wondering if he should reveal everything about himself.

But Dumbledore, as if reading his thoughts, stepped closer and said, "The past is behind you, my boy. What matters is what you do now, and what you'll do in the future. Since you've chosen this path, you must face it with honesty and courage."

In that moment, Dumbledore felt a premonition—a sense that this boy might be a key, a light, a force that could bring hope and change to the future.

Looking into the old wizard's eyes, Qin Yu felt a wave of reassurance. The man radiated wisdom and kindness—far more compelling than any film portrayal.

Sensing the boy's lingering anxiety, Dumbledore decided to offer something tangible. "In a few days, someone will come to bring you to Hogwarts. There, our professors will teach you how to harness your magic. Would you like that?"

As expected, the system chimed in:

"Ding! Dear Host, you stand at a crossroads. Will you walk alone as an adventurer, or choose the path of friendship and camaraderie? Please make your choice—

[Option One] Refuse Dumbledore's invitation. Reward: 100,000 Galleons and the complete Magic from Beginner to Master collection.

[Option Two] Accept Dumbledore's invitation. Reward: 1,000 Galleons."

The promise of 100,000 Galleons was tempting. With that kind of wealth—and a complete magical encyclopedia—he could probably carve out his own path, leveling up with the system's help and maybe even achieving legendary status.

But Qin Yu knew, deep down, that he'd come to this world to experience the life of a true wizard—and especially, to live out the magical school days he'd always dreamed of.

After a moment's thought, he smiled, stood, and bowed slightly to Dumbledore. "Thank you, Professor Dumbledore. I'd be honored to attend Hogwarts."

"Ding! Host has chosen to accept Dumbledore's invitation. Reward: 1,000 Galleons! Your new adventure begins now. May this reward help you purchase everything you need for your studies. Wishing you a magical and successful school year!"

This system really knows how to lay it on thick, Qin Yu thought, half amused.

"Welcome to Hogwarts!" Dumbledore declared, reaching into his robes and producing a letter.

He handed it to Qin Yu, smiling. "I had a feeling we might have one more new student, so I brought an extra admission letter—no need to bother the owls again. Every year, some of them get lost and deliver letters to the wrong address."

Qin Yu took the envelope, tore it open, and found his own name on the official admission letter.

A surge of excitement rushed through him. This—this was what so many Potter fans had dreamed of in his previous life. He, a mere bystander, had somehow made that dream come true.

Looking at the kindly old wizard, Qin Yu couldn't help but sniffle. He threw his arms around Dumbledore in a spontaneous hug.

"Thank you, Professor Dumbledore. Your visit has given me so much peace of mind."

Dumbledore patted his head gently. "The future, my boy, is always worth looking forward to."

And with a soft pop, he vanished—leaving the room as quiet and untouched as if he'd never been there at all.

Across the desk, Hermione still wore a sweet, peaceful smile, lost in a beautiful dream.
