Chapter 12 - Sin #11 — Watching Wickedness

"I will set no wicked thing before my eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me."

— Psalm 101:3 (KJV)

One of the most dangerous compromises in a believer's life is what we allow ourselves to watch. Our screens—phones, TVs, computers—have become open doorways. And too often, those doors are flung wide open to wickedness.

Watching evil doesn't just entertain you—it begins to shape you.

🔥 Exposure Desensitizes

The more you watch something, the more your heart adjusts to it. At first, you're uncomfortable. Then amused. Then numb. Eventually, you can laugh at what once grieved you, and ignore what once convicted you.

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil." — Isaiah 5:20

If the enemy can't corrupt you with action, he'll begin by feeding you imagery. And if you watch wickedness long enough, it doesn't just remain on the screen—it finds a seat in your heart.

👁️ What Are Your Eyes Feeding On?

Take an honest look at your media diet:

Do the shows, music videos, or games glorify sin?

Is your entertainment soaked in violence, lust, sorcery, profanity, or mockery of God?

Would Jesus sit with you while you watched it?

The things you consume shape your thoughts, emotions, and even dreams. If you're not vigilant, you'll find your convictions slipping and your spiritual hunger fading.

🙏 How to Guard Your Eyes from Evil

Set a holy standard for your media

Be intentional about what you watch (Philippians 4:8).

Cut off what's defiling

If a show, series, or site stirs sin in you, turn it off.

Choose content that uplifts your spirit

Fill your mind with God's Word, worship, and truth.

Ask God to cleanse your eyes

Pray daily for purity in your vision and entertainment choices.

🧎 Prayer to Turn from Evil Images

"Lord, open my eyes to see what You see. Forgive me for watching things that grieve Your Spirit. Help me to hate what You hate and to love what is good and pure. Cleanse my mind from every image that dishonors You, and help me set no wicked thing before my eyes. In Jesus' name, Amen."
