Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

In a university parking lot, a handsome and well-built young man, looking quite dashing, stood facing a beautiful and attractive girl. The girl extended her hand to the young man, her face slightly flushed, and she exclaimed, "I like you! Will you be my boyfriend?"

"I'm sorry, but I already have someone I love," the young man replied without hesitation.

"Oh, I see," she said, looking disappointed and a little tearful, but quickly recovering. "Alright, I understand. But can we still be friends?" the girl asked.

"Of course, we can still be friends," the young man replied with a smile.

"Thank you, I feel relieved now. I'm going, bye-bye!" Without waiting for the young man's answer, the girl ran off, tears streaming down her face, but her heart felt light, and she smiled. The young man stood still, watching the girl run further and further away until she was out of sight.

"I'm sorry, Febi. If you don't want to be friends with me anymore, that's okay too," the young man murmured to himself.

The young man lowered his head slightly, then turned around. He put both hands into his jacket pockets and walked towards his motorcycle. Once there, he zipped up his jacket and put on his helmet. He got on his motorcycle and rode out of the campus.

After riding across the city, the young man finally arrived at an apartment complex. He parked his motorcycle and walked towards the entrance of a tower. Inside, he pressed the elevator button to go up to his apartment floor. He walked leisurely down the corridor and turned to face his door.

"Click," he opened the door and stepped inside. The fragrant aroma of cooking wafted from within his apartment.

"I'm home," the young man said.

A wheelchair emerged from the kitchen. A beautiful girl with long hair tied in a ponytail, sitting in the wheelchair, looked at the young man. Her face immediately brightened, and she propelled her wheelchair towards him. Seeing the girl wheeling towards him, the young man knelt down and opened his arms.

"Whoosh," the girl jumped from her wheelchair into the young man's embrace. It turned out the girl had no legs from the thighs down. The young man stood up and carried the girl.

"You're home, Adrian," the girl said.

"Of course, Elsa," replied the young man, who was called Adrian.

Adrian carried Elsa, who wrapped her arms around Adrian's neck. They then kissed and walked into the kitchen to continue cooking together. After that, they sat at the dining table and began to eat together.

"How was campus?" Elsa asked.

"Well, it was okay, but there was a sudden exam today. Luckily, I studied last night, haha," Adrian replied.

"That's good then," Elsa said.

"How was your day at campus?" Adrian asked.

"Just normal, no exams, but it was nice chatting with friends, hehe," Elsa replied.

"Oh, that's great," Adrian said.

They chatted with each other as they continued their intimate dinner. Adrian watched Elsa, who was pushing back her hair and spooning food into her mouth, smiling and resting her chin on her hand. Feeling Adrian's gaze, Elsa smiled and reached out to Adrian's prominent nose.

"Eat, don't just stare," she said with a smile, pinching Adrian's nose.

"Because you're beautiful, hehe," Adrian replied.

"You're such a smooth talker," Elsa replied shyly but smiling.

"I love you," Adrian said, his nose still pinched.

"I love you too," Elsa replied with a smile.

Yes, the reason I reject others is because all my love is poured out for this girl in front of me. She is my wife, and she is everything to me. My name is Adrian Miller, I'm 20 years old, still in college and working to support my family. My wife's name is Elsa Widiastuti, who is now Elsa Miller. She is currently 19, but she'll be 20 in January.

The reason we married early is because we are both orphans and have no relatives at all. Plus, my wife Elsa has no legs, which is why I married her and could never leave her because I love her so much. My wife and I were brought together by destiny, but our story is a little more miraculous than others. It all started with a heart.

*******

Five years ago, at a hospital in Singapore. "Plip," an ECG machine beeped in an ICU room in the hospital. Adrian lay weak in the hospital; he had been hospitalized since he was a child due to a heart problem. There was a congenital defect in his heart valve, so his heart circulation was not normal like most people.

Because of his illness, Adrian was diagnosed by doctors with a lifespan of only up to 15 years, or even less. "Ugh," Adrian woke up. Slowly, he opened his eyes, looking at the ceiling above him. He glanced to the side; there was no one beside him.

Tears began to fall. He remembered his father, mother, and younger sister who had died only two months ago in a fatal plane crash when they went to America to visit his father's family. He didn't go because he was hospitalized.

"Thump," "Thump,"

Suddenly, his heart beat rapidly and a little painfully. Adrian raised his hand and held his chest; there was still a vertical scar running down the middle of his chest. His consciousness faded again, and he fell back asleep, but Adrian's eyes moved; he was dreaming.

"Huh... where am I?" Adrian asked.

He saw himself in a room that was entirely white as far as the eye could see. While he was confused, "tap," suddenly his shoulder was held from behind. Adrian, startled, jumped and turned around. He saw a handsome, neatly dressed middle-aged man he didn't know smiling at him.

"Who... who are you?" Adrian asked, surprised.

"Hmm, who am I? I am the memory embedded in your new heart," the middle-aged man said, pointing to Adrian's chest.

"Heart?" Adrian asked, confused.

"Yes, my wife and I both donated our hearts. It seems you are the recipient of the donor heart. I'm happy to see that you received my donation. Now, you must live," the middle-aged man said.

Adrian remained silent; he didn't understand what the wise-looking middle-aged man in front of him meant. Seeing Adrian lost in thought, the man approached and held both of Adrian's shoulders, then looked at him.

"What's your name?" the man asked.

"Adrian Miller," Adrian replied.

"Adrian, nice to meet you. Can I ask for a favor?" the man asked.

"A... ask what?" Adrian asked, confused.

"Find my wife. Tell her I'm sorry and regret divorcing her just before her death," the man replied.

"Huh... I have to find your wife?" Adrian asked.

"Oh, I mean, my wife has passed away too, just like me, and she also donated her heart just like me, because we both promised that if one of us went first, the one still alive had to find the deceased's heart and help the new heart's owner," the man replied.

"So... you mean, I have to find the person who received your wife's heart donation?" Adrian asked.

"That's right, but you don't have to focus on it, and I want you to live your life happily. If you have time, as a reward, I'll give you everything I own," the man replied.

"Huh... I understand, but what do you mean by everything you own?" Adrian asked.

"Listen, Adrian, my wife and I are not normal people. What I'll give you isn't wealth, but abilities," the man replied.

"What abilities?" Adrian asked.

"Because I was mute and deaf, I had an ability in my eyes that allowed me to see other people's thoughts like reading text in their heads. I could also see through things like an X-ray and see very far with accuracy. My other ability was that I had a photographic memory," the man replied.

"I see," Adrian replied, confused.

"So, I ask you to live and be happy. If you have time, please find my wife. You'll definitely understand when you find the person who has her heart, because my abilities wouldn't work on my wife since she was also the same. We were a mute, deaf, and blind couple, but no one knew we were actually disabled, hahaha," the man replied.

"But why did you divorce her in the end?" Adrian asked, confused.

"Ah... that was due to a misunderstanding between us. That's why I regret it and want to apologize to her, but it's too late. She passed away before me, so if you have time, please find whoever received her donation and apologize to her," the man replied.

"What's your name?" Adrian asked.

"My name is Jimmy, nice to meet you," Jimmy replied.

"Yes, nice to meet you too," Adrian replied.

"Well, now it seems you need to wake up, because the doctor is examining you," Jimmy said, looking up.

"But I can still meet you, right?" Adrian asked.

"How could you? I'm dead. I'm just a memory in your new heart, so we won't meet again. But don't worry, I'll always be with you for the rest of your life, because I am your heart," Jimmy replied with a smile.

"Crack," the room seemed to crack. Adrian became very confused and scared. "Crash," the entire room collapsed like shattering glass. "Waaaaaaaa," Adrian screamed as he fell into darkness towards a point of light that grew larger and larger. After passing through the bright light, Adrian opened his eyes.

"Whoaaah,"

He was instantly startled to see a doctor with a skull face right in front of him, who was also surprised when he saw Adrian open his eyes.
