Chapter 1 - Academy

"Welcome to Greenville Academy, everybody!" shouted an overexcited bus driver, "You'll be spending your next 4 years there — enjoy!"

Ira groaned. He didn't want to imagine the loneliness he'll feel at his new school. He just had to not reveal that he was a monster this time. Ira looked over to his right and saw a sleeping girl that had laid her head onto the old, blue school bus chair. He mentally noted the girl's traits and decided that his meal could be waited until later.

Once they had arrived, a teacher arrived in the car park and started her speech. Quickly, Ira shoved and slipped past people with incredible speed and strength and could faintly hear her speech. He listened intensely.

"You have arrived in Greenville Academy's school grounds. You are not to cause mischief or any silly things whatsoever," the unsmiling teacher said sternly, "We will not tolerate any incidents, so this is my warning to you." Ira already knew the rules, and so, he was bored out of his mind as the stern teacher continued her speech.

After what felt like many, many hours, the teacher finally stopped her speech and started making the children line up for their dorms and to hand out a card-like object. Ira was in the front, and was given Dorm G5. Once everyone had received their dorms, the teacher finally allowed them to enter the school site and returned to the teacher's dorms.

Ira walked slowly at the back of the slowly marching new-years, and with his stomach rumbling, he wanted that it was time for a quick snack, but not now, he thought. He would have to wait for tomorrow, to avoid suspicion. For now, he glanced at the students, deciding which one would be the most vulnerable, and the most rewarding to him. Ira was trying to find a friendless individual, to avoid the most conflict, and to avoid the teachers' suspicion. His stomach was crying out for help- and he could not wait for any more than 12 hours — he had to act quick tomorrow.

"Here is the dining room," the teacher said, "You all have received an academy card. They can be used to track your location in case you are missing and require help or paying for supplies. These could be used anywhere, anytime. You will receive 15 coins each week, but spend them wisely. They are used to receiving lunch as well." The students chaotically lined themselves up to the counter and began ordering. Ira couldn't eat normal food — so he headed to the seats and began socializing with a new person.

"Hello," Ira said kindly, "I'm Ira."

"Nice to meet you, I'm Hannah." Hannah said, confused. She thought that everybody here was mean and arrogant, but clearly this wasn't the case.

"What dorm number did you get?" Ira said.

"Oh, I got G5, what about you?" Hannah said.

"Me too," Ira said, surprised, "Well, we're roommates now, but why don't you have dinner?"

Hannah looked around to check if anyone was listening.

"Alright, but don't tell anyone I said this, but I'm actually a-" started Hannah quietly. She was bumped into a tall man. He must be a teacher, Ira thought.

"I'll see you at G5!" Hannah hurriedly said as she ran out of the dining room. Ira looked around. He didn't think that it was that late, but looking at his watch, it was midnight. The sky was gloomy, and that was what he liked. He was an Unstable, he could go unstable sometimes and go on a rampage, but mostly, he had to just eat human flesh to stay alive, and he had no trouble getting any — he was powerful.

"Attention all students, please return to your dorms within 15 minutes, unless you want to face serious consequences." the speaker announced, "For first years only, please remain seated until you have been checked that you are, in fact, not an Unstable."

Ira gulped fearfully. He hadn't expected this.
