Zendaya – POV
Damien kissed my forehead and left without a word. Just like that—I was alone. The door shut quietly behind him, but the storm he left behind still raged in my chest.
After Enzo's scene, Damien's expression cracked with something that nearly broke me. Like I'd betrayed him. Like I'd chosen another. But I hadn't done anything wrong. Enzo had only been kind, maybe too kind, and maybe Damien didn't like that—but he'd believed me.
Still, something in his eyes haunted me.
I told you Enzo is no good. We almost hurt mate. Cassidy growled in my mind. My wolf sounded so harsh and scolding.
"I didn't mean to," I whispered back, curling into the sheets. "I didn't do anything."
Intentions don't matter when hearts are on the line. Cassidy whispered silently.
Guilt wrapped around my chest like a chain. I stared at the ceiling. Sleep came and went, but it never stayed. When I finally slipped under, it wasn't peace that found me.
It was chaos. Blood. Claws. Fire.
