Chapter 21 - The Protector's Instinct

"You think we should've waited for Lyra?"Onyx asked as Sami made his way through the streets.

"No time", he replied. Narrowly avoiding people so as to not fall and waste extra time. "It seems like the lady was in big trouble if she was screaming for help so I'd rather rush to make sure nothing bad can happen."

"Right", Onyx stated, still unsure if this was the right idea.

Sami heard more screaming and followed the noise. Rounding the corner Sami came upon the scene of an old lady clenching her onto her staff as a man was approaching her. A young girl laid on the ground near the old lady.

"So we can do this the easy way, or hard way lady.", the tall man snarled. "Just hand over the book, I'll allow you and the girl to live."

The old lady looked at the man with defiance, no ounce of fear on her face.

"Hey, leave her alone!"Sami shouted. Having had enough of the scene and deciding to announce his presence.

"How many people will you send to their deaths, Old lady", he huffed. "Listen kid, I'll do you a favor. Take that person on the ground and leave. This is the only mercy that you'll get."

Sensing a fight about to happen, Onyx disappeared from Sami's shoulder. Sami put the backpack on the ground carefully making sure not to drop it hard.

"See that sounds like a threat to me", Sami mocked as he marched closer to the guy.

The guy let out a growl as he turned around to face Sami. "I don't make threats, it's a promise. So I suggest back the fuck up and leave."

"Tsk tsk tsk see I can't do that. Bullying an old lady is wrong don't ya think?"Sami cringed as he eyed the man down.

He was a little taller than Sami, standing probably around 6 foot. It was strange that he was dressed head to toe in all black. With a hood covering his head and mask on his face. He didn't seem related to the person that attacked them before but Sami couldn't be sure.

Without warning the man lunged at Sami moving fast enough to most people he's a blur. To Sami after training with Lyra and Teacher Anna for so long it was like the person was moving in slow motion. Sami easily caught the punch that was aimed at his face.

Sami cocked his head at the man. "Is that seriously all you got? I'd to not hurt you so if you leave all will be forgiven"

The man hissed as he stepped back from Sami, but couldn't force Sami to let go of his fist. He began to struggle to get his hand loosened from his grip. Wondering what the man would do, Sami let the man's fist go, causing the to stumble backwards.

A hiss could be heard again as the man angrily charged at Sami. Throwing a roundhouse kick to Sami's head, which Sami easily dodged. Sami was utterly bored fighting this man. He wanted to test out his skills since beginning the training, sadly this guy has been very disappointing.

In the middle of the man throwing a jab, Sami blocked the punch. Stepping into the man's guard he did an uppercut that sent man flying into the sky. He soared over the young girl on the ground, and the old lady. THUD! As the man hit the ground not getting back up from the damage.

"Hey ma'am are you okay?"Sami asked. Putting on a kind smile as he went towards the girl on the ground to make sure she's okay.

"What do you want?", the lady growled at Sami as she began to back away. "No one just helps out people for no reason around these parts."

Sami finished looking over the young girl, she's breathing fine. No signs of tears or wounds. Might be eternal bruising but at the moment she's just unconscious. Now that he knows the girl will be okay, he frowned as he looked up at the old lady.

"I'm not from around these parts, so how other people act isn't me.", Stated Sami his tone was disappointed.

"You think I'm that foolish to believe that", the Old Lady replied. "I know you're after what everyone else has been trying to get."

"I'll be honest, I don't know what people want from you but I'm Sami", Sami introduced as began to stand up.

"Get away from her!", a male voice shouted.

Sami just sighed as ducked, a weapon went flying past his head embedding itself in the ground. Sami looked cursorily at the weapon, it looked similar to the kunai that attacked them earlier. Sami's form suddenly flickered as a blade went through his neck.

Sami causally walked forward a little, moving away from the girl on the ground. Turning around he saw a man standing in front of the old lady. He had light blue hair, and a long scar going down the right side of his face.

"Who the hell are, and what did you do to Kim?", the man screamed at Sami.

"Right, I assume Kim is the girl on the ground. In that case nothing!"Sami clarified.

Before Sami could continue talking a blade went through his back, as he instinctively turned intangible. In front of Sami the man's body began to fade before it disappeared. Sami was confused as another blade went through his neck.

Getting tired of the games, he turned around to face the man. Yet no one was there. Sami was wondering what the hell was going on as the world began to change. The walls began to try and attack as him as tried to dodge out of the way.

"Welcome to my world", the man's voice echoed around. "I can control all your senses so good luck trying to survive"

Sami was intrigued by the technique as it was really similar to the Minotaur's technique of trapping you in a maze. Though unlike then, it seemed he was trapped, just his regular senses were tricked. He could feel the magic radiating from the man so Sami slipped into the ground.

Another thing he learned is that not only can he himself not take damage but he can go into the ground or raise himself in the air with his technique. Quickly he appeared behind where he sensed the most magic energy. Appearing behind the man and grabbing him in a headlock.

"What the hell", the man gasped as he clawed at Sami's arm trying to get lose.

The world cracked before shattering, returning to the alley he was in before being trapped in the fake world. Sami though began to slowly lock in the hold, already annoyed with having to deal with so many weak mages. Maybe that's why Anna jokes around so much because she's so strong.

"Hey I felt a huge amount of energy being used over here are you okay-", Lyra trailed off as she walked in the alley and saw Sami choking out a figure.

As Lyra looked at the blue hair she couldn't help but gasp. Memories flowed back from the night of the Gbahali attack and Gin telling her to escape. She knew the blue haired man she thought died in the attack as well.

"Sami let him go", Lyra pleaded as she held on to the wall trying to steady her breath.

"Seriously, do you know this guy?"Sami asked as he loosened his grip but didn't let go.

Lyra just looked at him with tired eyes. "Yeah, that's one of the members from my team."

Sami looked confused at her as he thought everyone died on the mission. Though believing her he let the blue haired man go. The man fell to the ground taking in big breaths as he tried to fill his lungs with air.
