"Welcome to Havenswood", Lyra exclaimed as a city began to come into the distance.
"OH look at how pretty the city is", Onyx shouted in excitement. "It's even surrounded by water."
"I know it's really different compared to the small houses and buildings in my city," Sami replied.
Sami was excited at finally seeing a difference, the only city he had ever seen was Astrium. Havenswood was smaller but not less busier. He could see many horse drawn carriages and people flowing in and out.
Lyra and Sami soon joined the line of people going into the city. Unlike Astrium it seemed the guards made sure to check everything on a person before going inside. That includes carts and bags. The guards seem to be much more proactive, Sami wonders if it's due to bandits or the nature of their mission.
Even though it was only one guard talking to people, Sami could see there were other guards around. A couple were waiting by the entrance not too far from the check in station. Others were patrolling the area. The entrance to the city didn't have a gate, it was a bridge that crossed over water.
Once across the bridge it was finally Sami and Lyra's turn to be questioned by the guard.
"Present names, include any paperwork or information to confirm your background.", The guard demanded. "What is your reason for visiting Havenswood?"
"We are…", began Sami
"We are traveling siblings", Lyra cut in. "Our parents recently died and we decided to sell our house to seek work in a bigger city. My name is Lyra and my brothers name is Sami"
Lyra said all of this in a small voice as if full of emotions, tears were in her eyes as if about to fall. Sami looked on not saying a word, doing his best to follow Lyra's lead in pretending to be sad. Lowering his eyes to the ground so as to not give anything away.
"Right", the guard said, clearing his throat. "Well I'll have to check your pack for any illegal things as sanctioned by the King. If everything is good you'll be on your way.
"Thank you so much sir!"Lyra cried out. Bowing to the guard.
Sami followed her lead and bowed his head too. Standing up he handed the pack on his back to the guard. Making sure to release any extra weight on it so the guard wouldn't think it was suspicious.
The guard quickly searched through the pack, though he noted that it held way more inside of it than expected. After going through the pack and finding nothing he quickly handed it back to Sami.
"Everything seems to be in order, welcome to the city of Havenswood.", the guard stated. "If you're looking for work there is a tavern looking for people on the main street and a blacksmith looking for an assistant. Though be careful there has been a group of young mages causing issues."
"Thank you for the recommendations, my brother and I appreciated" Lyra beamed. Sami just bowed his head a little, opting to stay quiet. Though he took note of the comment on the young mages.
The guard nodded before calling out next for people behind them. Walking past the guards they finally made their way to the city to Sami it looked very beautiful. Compared to Astrium where everything was made of wood, Havenswood had stone buildings that looked old. Yet very well taken care of.
"Common bookworm, let's go!" Lyra spoke before marching off in a random direction." Luckily I've been here before so I know where the person we need to protect is."
"And she's back to normal not two seconds and she's already back to being bossy.", Sami thought. A large sweat drop could be seen on his head.
"She's one hell of an actor", Onyx commented. Sami agreed to what she said.
"Move your ass bookworm!"Lyra shouted over her shoulder.
Sami began to walk faster. "Yes ma'am", he said.
After a couple steps Lyra suddenly stopped causing Sami to bump into her. "What happened to Onyx?"she asked.
"Oh um she went into the familiar tattoo, or something of the sort", Sami replied scratching his head.
"Interesting", She stated before walking off once again.
While the city of Havenswood was built beautifully with fairly tall buildings he wasn't used to seeing. The streets instead of lanterns or candles of some type, it was a giant pole with a bulb. Some buildings had signs of something called a camera that he finds fascinating but will have to look at a later time.
The streets were packed with people as he followed behind Lyra. The streets felt like a maze as they turned down random alleys and street corners. Sami felt annoyed with how long they have been walking ready to get to the place they're going.
"So where are we going?"Sami asked. Frustration bubbling up as he was tired of carrying the packs.
"And are we there yet'" Onyx whined. Even though Lyra couldn't hear her. Sami just sighed at her being silly.
"Well we are heading to the shrine", Lyra replied. "We should be nearing it soon since it's located at the edge of the city."
"OH SHRINE!"Onyx shouted randomly popping up. People started to randomly point at them and glance at their direction from the loud noise.
Sami jumped at the sudden noise."Holy shit Onyx!", he blurted out. "Don't just randomly shout in my ear."
Before Onyx could reply a loud scream could be heard up ahead.
"SOME ONE HELP!", a loud female cried out.
Without waiting for Lyra's input Sami took off running. Forcing Onyx to clench on harder to his shoulder to not fall off.
"Dammit Sami", Lyra muttered as she followed behind him. "If you can get in trouble trying to help others in this city without a good cause."
Sadly Sami didn't hear her words as they rushed to where the scream could be heard.
