Chapter 35 - Act 3 (5) The TEST

A whole 2 months have passed since i saw her outside the judo club.

I've been doing pretty well, as far as Cricket goes.

I've finished both t20 and 50 over tournaments.

Our team was pretty darn good, leading us to do extra good as compared to other teams.

People are slowly getting a hang of the pase of how to play a match and are actually playing as per game situations.

All thanks to the daily 3 hour situational awareness practice, honestly.

Let's see... Out of the 15 matches, I obviously played all of them.

T20 wasn't that great, i have an average of 27 after 15 matches and scored only 3, 50's and 0 hundeds.

My strike rate is very good though so I'm quite glad about that.

But, 27 is not a good average. Especially for the current generation.

I have to have atleast an average of 30-35, considering i come at 2 down.

Which is a crucial position to take care of the middle overs.

So, that average was no doubt below par.

I scored about 400+ runs in the allotted 15 matches.

Which is bad, having 400 runs in a 15 match tournament is below par, Especially for those in form.

Atleast a 500 is to be given for batsman such as myself.

Apart from that, i did pretty good wicketkeeping.

Got 11 stumpings and 10 catches, in the 15 games.

And i didn't let a single chance slip by.

Which means my gameplay percentage is pretty good.

In the 90+ range.

Now, onto the 50 over games.

This is where i excelled the most, Having an average of 82 and a strike rate of 97.

You can guess just how good i did in the 50 over format.

In the 10 games i played, i always scored 50+ runs and got 3 hundreds.

Got out in the 80-85 ranges most of the time i didn't get a 100.

That was how good i played...

I was so good at the 50 over format that i became the leading run scorer this season. With a margin of 300 runs between me and the 2nd position.

That's how bad everyone else played in the 50 over format.

I scored a total of 827 runs in 10 matches.

And I got a higher rate of success behind the wickets because people weren't very good at defence.

Getting a total of 22 catches behind the wickets and not much when it comes to stumping opportunities with 2 stumpings.

That was how the tournament went as a whole and now, it was time for the Test format and everyone was very excited to play test format for the first time.

They have a seperate pitch for test cricket aswell.

Which makes things even more interesting now.

because... with the red ball and the invariable pitches that these people created.

We might be in for a heck of a time.

By the way... The tournament playoffs will take place after the end of the group stages of all three tournaments.

Whoever wins the tournament will get a hike of 2 Lakh won for T20, 3 Lakh for 50 over and 5 Lakh for test.

Can't believe it's alreayd been 5 months since the Academy started.

Onto the test matches we go.

Since, today was the day 1 of match 1 against Team A.

...

The toss went our way and we elected to ball first.

And after the first session of day 1 they were 97/3.

Looks like they are doing prerty good with the way they are playing.

Now that it's lunch time let me tell you how test matches are played.

In a test match you play for 5 days.

which usually starts at 9 in the morning and ends at 5 in the evening.

A day of a test match is divided into 3 parts called sessions.

After session 1 which amounts tobaround 30 overs there's a break called Lunch which is a break of about 40 Minutes after 2 hours of play.

Each session amounts to about 2 hours of play and a break inbetween.

after lunch comes the 2nd session, and after the 2nd session is tea which amounts to about 20 minutes of break.

After tea is the 3rd session and after the end of the 3rd session is the end of day's play.

And that is repeated for 5 days.

Now, Each day has 90 overs of play which is the minimum amount of overs to be bowled in that day.

With each session amounting to 30 overs and all 5 days amounting to around 450 overs.

A team as you know has 10 wickets, And that ammounts to an innings and the moment a team get's bowled out meaning all the wickets are taken

than the 2nd team should have to chase whatever score was put on ny the other team.

But, Test cricket is different.

The moment the 1st team gets bowled out and the other team chases that score, that doesn't end the game there.

The team has to score more runs after they have chased down the other team's score.

whatever is put on the board after the score is chased is called LEAD.

And, they bat until all their wickets are taken by the other team or the batting team willingly declares their innings.

Declaring just means they have ended their innings and are willing to put the other team to bat again.

And 1st team has to chase down whatever the score is put up by the 2nd team.

And than score more more runs and give a target to the 2nd team.

And whatever lead the 1st team has taken, will be the target for the 2nd team.

Their job is to chase the 1nd team's score without getting bundled out before that score is reached.

Put simply let's say there are 2 teams.

Team A and B

Team A scores around 400 and get all out.

Team b has to score 400 and give more runs back for the A team to chase.

If they get only around 370 runs, that means they are on trail by 30 runs and those 30 runs get added to team A's total score in the 2nd innings score.

Meaning, if Team A scores 300 in the 2nd Innings, that means the target for team B is 331.

and if they chase it it's well and good and if they don't and get all out for say 329 runs that means they have lost.

This would be the scorecard of a test match.

1st Innings

A (400/10) / B (370/10)

Team B trail by 30 runs.

2nd Innings

Team A lead By 30 runs

A (300/10) / B (329/10)

Team B lost by 1 run.
